RESPITE CARE SPECIALIST

POSITION ATTRIBUTES:

As with all positions at JUSTin Hope Foundation, it is the duty of the RespiteCare Specialist to fully support the mission, vision and values of our Organization, to work in a coordinated manner with other employees, and to demonstrate professional and personal confidence in the service delivery model and approaches taken by JUSTin Hope Foundation. As with all positions, the Respite Care Specialist is able to pay attention to many things at once, and enjoys variety in the flow of the workday.

The Respite Care Specialist respects people of all socioeconomic and racial and cultural backgrounds and is culturally competent in his/her work. S/he must enjoy children, and have the skills to care for children of different developmental levels, ages, and behaviors with calmness and understanding. S/he respects parents and works to strengthen the parent-child bond. The Respite Care Specialist is extremely reliable, is able to work independently, and demonstrates the capacity to consistently make sound judgments. The Respite Care Specialist must be physically and emotionally prepared to meet the needs of children on her/his shifts.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Become familiar with children and families in his/her care by reading family files, attending staff meeting, and talking with parents at drop-off of children and when entering home to provide respite care.
  • Engage with children in meaningful activities, providing children with one-on-one and group interactions.
  • Provide for the physical and emotional well-being of children with respect and compassion.
  • Provide care and supervision that the parent, guardian or Host Home would normally provide.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of the person.
  • Maintain the usual routine of the person. Such as following medication support plans.
  • Honor all aspects of the person’s human rights and adhere to all policies of confidentiality.
  • Provide timely, complete, legible, and accurate documentation of respite care and comply with all reporting requirements.
  • Represent JUSTin Hope Foundation in a positive and professional manner to persons, families, co-workers and the public.
  • Notify the Executiveor Assistant Directorof any changes in address, phone number, and emergency information.
  • Provide own transportation to client homes.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with independence of individual to maximize their capabilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Prior experience assisting persons with disabilities is preferred but not required as long as the employee possesses a high school diploma or equivalent. Experience involving childcare or adult physical care skills is preferred.
  • Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age to provide in-home and/or center-based respite care.
  • JUSTin Hope Foundation will offer the required trainings based on the care and needs of the person. JUSTin Hope Foundation employees are expected to participate in required training including First Aid, CPR, and Respite Care.

OTHER:

  • Must have own means of reliable transportation.

WorkING CONDITIONS: Good working conditions in a controlled home or center environment. May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.
