Resource/Reading Intervention-2 7/8 – Mrs. Lettau - We will continue with the Wilson “Just Words” reading program, reviewing the use of –y at the end of a word and using the suffixes -ly and –ty. We will be ready for a test on Thursday/Friday. Computer Literacy 7/8 – Mrs. Lettau – We will continue to work on our keyboarding skills. We will also continue working in Microsoft, using the tool box when making documents. 8th FACS: The students are beginning their cooking lessons. We will be focusing on easy to make foods. The first lesson is our appetizer lab. The students will prep, cook, and clean during their lab along with working with others and sharing responsibility. They are graded on all areas. When they are not in the kitchen they will be working on a kitchen measurement worksheet. This will be homework if they do not complete it in class. They have a lab fee of $10 that can be paid at any time before October 1st.

Food Science: The students are discussing energy. They are participating in a boiling water lab and will be practicing using a thermometer to take the temperature of the water. When students are not in the lab they will be working on graphing data. The graphing should be done during class but will be homework if the student does not complete it.

Mr. Gifford - American History - Students have begun work on chapter two which covers exploration of the Americas in the 15th and 16th centuries. We will work through this chapter quickly and most likely have a quiz Friday and Monday (9/19). 8th Communication Arts This week we will analyze how particular lines of dialogue or incidents in a story propel the action, reveal aspects of a character, or provoke a decision. As students read, they will make predictions using clues from the story to support their predictions. We will also begin our study of verbs.

6th/7th/8th Physical Education & Health: Next week students in Mrs. Briney's class will start their Soccer unit and Mr. Hawthorne's class will start their Frisbee unit. We will be going outside some, so if needed, pack some sunscreen. Please help remind students to pack clothes to change into for class, as well as tennis shoes that tie. Health notes are to be kept organized in a folder or binder to help them study for quizzes and for folder checks at the end of each quarter. Their first quiz will be over their fitness notes, lessons 1, 2, and 3. The quiz will be THURSDAY & FRIDAY (9/15 & 9/16) If you have any questions, feel free to contact Mr. Hawthorne or Mrs. Briney. 8th Grade Science: This week we will take our first test over Inquiry (Gold day students will test on Wednesday, September 14 and Blue Day on Thursday, September 15). Students will continue to identify variables and collect data and graph while conducting and carrying out investigations. We will then begin our unit on measurement. 8th Grade RISE- We will be reading Adventure IV in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, “The Boscombe Valley Mystery”. We will also continue our Crime Scene Detective: Theft Unit which promotes using science and critical thinking to solve crimes. The second lesson focuses on forensic science careers.

9/9/15 Counselor’s Corner: Congratulations to the newly elected 2016-17 STUCO members. You guys did an awesome job and I look forward to working with you this school year. Our first meeting will be Monday, September 12th during seminar.

Counseling lessons this month will concentrate on the character word “respect” and time management. I will be meeting with students once a month this year during their social studies class and look forward to spending time getting to know each and every student.

8THGrade Math: We have completed the unit on rational numbers. The test will be on Monday (G1 and G2) and Tuesday (B1 and B5). We will start a unit on exponents and roots next week. Students will be able to evaluate integer and zero exponents and simplify expressions with exponents. Please check out our class website at There is a lot of helpful information and resources there including a class calendar and notes from class. My digital library contains many resources that students can use at home to practice the skills we are learning in class.

Art:Students will learn how to use accurate facial proportions using the grid method and DaVinci method incorporated with an abstract alternative to self-interpretation. Students will be creating a portrait that depicts half their real self and half their internal interpretation of themselves. Students will have a photo taken of them in class to work off of, and will use another reference photo for the abstract interpretation part. Students will be introduced to several artists with this project to help understand the abstract concept. This weeks weekly sketch is to create an Asymmetrical design. Similar to project concept.

Materials:Pencils, Eraser, Black Sharpie, and colorful pens.

Graphics 1:Students will work on a one point perspective word design in correlation with Kandinsky warm up to get better aquainted with the GIMP manipulation tools. Students will then move on to working on their Yearbook Cover Design independetly. Students will also begin photo manipulation for Yearbook Pages as they become available.

8th Grade-Exploring Agriculture-Mr. Brock: This week we will conclude Unit 1: Introduction to Agriculture.
