Resident Update: Cullompton Skate Park phase two

Cullompton Skate Park is a very well used park. There are a wide range of users from under elevens with push along scooters to teenagers and young adults using it for BMX and Skateboarding. Due to the popularity of the park and the range of disciplines that use it, it can become overcrowded. It has also been noted that some of the ramps are steep for beginners.

There has always been a plan to expand the skate park when funds became available, research told us parents would like somewhere to sit and a street course would be beneficial for younger children to develop their skills before progressing onto the bigger ramps. We aim to create a free family friendly area which allows all ages and abilities to use and enjoy the space safely.

What is planned?

Following the consultations we have carried out over the years and the event we held in July. The committee have received positive feedback and support about the plans for the future park. Only one or two negative comments have been received and where possible we will try and mitigate any concerns.

Picture one shows the concrete area in front of the existing skate park. We intend to build out a flat tarmac area on the grass in front of the existing skate park and place small ramps in this area with picnic benches for seating.

Picture two shows the sort of space we are hoping to create in front of the existing facility with smaller ramps than shown.

Next Steps:

The committee, which is made up of young people and supported by the Youth Service, Town Council and Mid Devon District Council, have been busy fundraising and securing funding over the last two years. So far they have enough for the tarmac and picnic benches to be installed and we hope to place the order in a few weeks.

Picture 3 seating planned for users, parents, carers and friends.

Once the work is complete we will apply to the Lottery for the ramps, which are in storage to be refurbished and installed.

We hope the project will be complete in the New Year.

Should you wish to discuss our plans please contact Cllr Gordon Guest (Secretary) by email or phone 07867309130.

Kind regards
