No Standing, Only Dancing

Summative Assessments

You are a group of college students who are creating a 32 count – 4 wall line dance routine to try out to be chosen as one of the five dance groups selected by the homecoming committee to perform at the rally before the biggest game of the year against the Alabama Crimson Tide. The committee is looking for the group that best exemplifies that effective communication allows a group to create and refine in order to achieve an aesthetically balanced product. You will have two chances to create the original 32 count – 4 wall line dance and a written composition of the dance moves. Each person must fill out the Dance Choreography worksheet and turn it in on the designated date. Each of the 32 counts must be described in detail. Your dance performance needs to be 1:45-2:00 minutes and must be a 32 count - four wall line dance. You must perform as many walls as necessary to dance for 1:45 - 2:00 time period. You must communicate effectively with one another and demonstrate attitudes and strategies that show you can get along as a group. Remember there will be consequences if someone in the group makes bad choices. This may cause the group to not be chosen to participate in the homecoming rally. At the end of the tryouts each student will evaluate each group that performs during the tryout. Each person will also turn in an evaluation of their group’s performance and explain the effectiveness of the outcome. No dancing individually - everyone must be dancing together as a group. The performance must have ending – the group cannot just walk off the stage. In other words make sure to finish the” wall”. No flips, lifts, pyramid or leap frog moves allowed. If you miss the performance of the dance for ANY REASON, you must run a makeup mile to earn the 8 points. However, if you were absent on the day of the performance but present on makeup day then the whole group must perform again. Anyone injured for the entire semester and unable to dance will do a homework project. Each student must turn in a Dance Choreography sheet with all the dance steps that are performed. The students will evaluate all the other groups.

Each member of the dance group will be judged on the following criteria:

Timing and Togetherness: The dancers are totally synchronized with each other.

Line: The dancers stay in a straight line(s) through each wall.

Presentation: The dancers perform their dance with enthusiasm and confidence.

Memorization: Each member must memorize the dance.

Transitions: Smooth transition from one wall to the next.

Floor-craft: Avoided bumping into one another and link movements together.

Ending: The dancers completed the final wall with an ending.

Time: Final dance time was between 1:45 – 2:00 minutes

Movement Composition: The level of difficulty and creativity of the dance
