Job Title: / Research Manager (Coaching) / Reports To: / Head of Player Development and Research / Grade: / B
Job Purpose:
  • To develop and manage a long term research programme to investigate coaching effectiveness in line with The FA Coaching Strategy
  • To develop investigations into The FA coach education, coach development and coach support programmes
  • To deliver accurate benchmarking measure(s) for The FA schemes of work against other Football organisations and other sports and related businesses
  • To contribute to the development of The FA Coaching strategy and to write articles for Insight magazine
To contribute to the Football Development Division strategic direction and overall objectives through the undertaking of specific project and programme work providing technical advice and assistance, as agreed with the Head of Coaching and the Director of Football Development.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Work with relevant Football Development staff to develop a coordinated and comprehensive Coaching Research programme
  • Deliver a comprehensive coaching library of information to be used across all FA distribution sites
  • Support National and Regional staff with Coaching research initiatives
  • Assist with production of FA Resources e.g. books/DVDs/online materials/FACA articles
  • Translate academic articles into practical coaching language and suggest appropriate coaching implications and interventions
  • Where appropriate, co-ordinate undergraduate and postgraduate studies into coaching

Person Specification (Key Skills And Experience Required): Essential / Person Specification (Key Skills And Experience Required): Desirable
  • Evidence of Sports related Research Background
  • Masters Degree (or equivalent) in appropriate area
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Experience of coaching football
With the proven ability to:
  • Facilitate, individual, small and large group sessions effectively
  • Influence and persuade individuals and groups with clear, well researched, well thought out views consistent with FA coaching strategy
  • Work strategically to deliver and evolve The FA Coaching Strategy

  • PhD (or equivalent) in Coaching related area
