The assignment of reporting marks will take approximately one month from start to finish, provided all documents needed to complete the assignment are executed and returned to this office promptly. If your assignment needs to be completed in less than (30) days, we will accommodate you in every possible way to meet your business requirement. Important -there is an administrative fee of $525.00 to reserve and to assign the railroad reporting mark. This fee is non-refundable. Do not forward payment until a reserve letter and invoice are received.

Important:There is an administrative fee of $262.50 to reserve the reporting mark and $262.50 to assign the reporting mark. The reporting marks will normally be reserved for a period of 30 days, after which, the reporting mark will be canceled and made available for other use.

Class I—A railroad with operating revenues of $398.7 million dollars or more in 1993, as classified by the Surface Transportation Board (STB); for a carrier to fall into or out of Class I status, it must be above or below the threshold for three consecutive years. This includes all subsidiary Class I equipment MARKS.(RR)

Regional—A non-Class I line-haul railroad which operates 350 or more miles of road, and/or which earns revenues of at least $31.9 million. (Note: For a carrier to fall out of Regional railroad status on the basis of revenues, it must be below the threshold for three consecutive years). This includes all subsidiary Regional railroad equipment MARKS.(RR2)

Switching and Terminal—A non-Class I railroad primarily engaged in providing switching service in a terminal area, or which receives a switching charge from a line-haul carrier. This includes all subsidiary Switching and Terminal railroad equipment MARKS. (STC)

Local—A railroad which is neither a Class I nor Regional railroad, and which is primarily engaged in providing line-haul service. This includes all subsidiary local railroad equipment marks. (RR3)
