APPLYING FOR ELIGIBILITY TO ENTER SUBSPECIALTY TRAINING
  • Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (CREI) applications for the Subspecialties National Selection Process 2018 (2019 entry) open on 1 December 2017, and close on 31 March 2018.
  • The Subspecialties National Selection Process for CREI is a competitive process that determines eligibility to commence subspecialty training, but does not guarantee a training position.
  • The regulations pertaining to eligibility to apply for and eligibility to commence subspecialty training are found in theRANZCOG RegulationsSection D: Subspecialty Training available on the College website. It is expected that applicants will ensure they meet eligibility criteria before applying.
  • Shortlisting and interviews are conducted by a panel comprising the Chair of the CREI Subspecialty Committee and a further two subspecialists.

  • National Selection applicants selected to proceed to interview are required to attend in person in Melbourne.
  • All applicants are notified in writing of the outcome of their application, and whether or not they have been selected for interview.

The following Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility selection criteria apply in assessing applicants for eligibility to enter CREI subspecialty training in the National Selection Process 2018 (2019 entry).

  • See Appendix for further detail regarding Selection Criteria and Descriptors.
  • Applicants should ensure they address the Selection Criteria in their application.
  • Applicants will be asked questions at interview pertaining to the subspecialty-specific elements indicated on page one.

Subspecialty Committees will use a scoring system for shortlisting, between 0 (no evidence) to 3 (comprehensive evidence), with the provision that candidates would need to achieve a score of 2 or more in each category of their written application, to be shortlisted for interview.

Shortlisted applicants will again be scored against selection criteria at interview. Applicants are expected to meet or exceed each of the selection criteria in order to be deemed eligible for selection to enter subspecialty training.

REFEREES

Applicants are required to provide the names and contact details of three referees.

The three referees must be:

  • A senior colleague (FRANZCOG) with whom you have worked within the last two years. Applicants who are currently in the FRANZCOG training program must nominate their current Training Supervisor as the senior colleague.
  • Two other colleagues with whom the applicant has worked within the last two years.

Please ensure you contact your referees prior to applying.

Email addresses and telephone numbers of all referees must be provided.

Applicants will be contacted to confirm receipt of all references, or if there are any issues with these.

References are provided in strict confidence by referees, therefore applicants must not contact referees about any aspect of the reference provided.

COMPLETING AND SUBMITTING AN APPLICATION
  • Please write clearly in black ink using capital letters, in English.
  • The declaration at the back of the application form must be signed by the applicant.
  • All late and incomplete applications submitted will NOT be accepted.
  • A non-refundable application fee of AUD $300 will apply to the Subspecialties National Selection Process. Applicants will be required to pay this fee online at the same time as submitting the application.
  • A covering letter must be submitted with the completed application form and should be addressed to the Chair of the CREI Subspecialty Committee.
  • A current CV is to be attached to the application.
  • Additional material supporting the application and demonstrating the applicant's interest in the CREI subspecialty may also be added as an appendix to a completed application form.
  • Applications, including all completed references, must be received by the College by the closing time and date.

APPENDIX: SELECTION CRITERIA AND DESCRIPTORS
  1. Educational History
Candidate has completed or is on track (plan in place) to complete core/advanced training requirements this year including exams, procedural and surgical assessments, and research.
  1. Employment History
Candidate has achieved satisfactory assessments during core/advanced training.
  1. Professional Development and Commitment to the CREI Subspecialty
Candidate has proactively pursued professional development opportunities to develop their skills, experience and knowledge;
Candidate has attended PD in the subspecialty.
  1. Teaching and Leadership Experience
Candidate demonstrates experience of teaching junior medical, nursing or allied health staff;
Candidate demonstrates a leadership role in developing teaching or learning programs, showing sustained commitment to the area.
  1. Research, Publications and Presentations
Candidate has been actively involved in research within the last three years, translating into improved clinical care or improving their abilities as a researcher/clinician;
Candidate has some ideas around the topic/area of research they wish to pursue in the subspecialty;
Candidate has undertaken research leading to publications in peer reviewed journals or research leading to higher degree (PhD, MD, MS etc…);
Candidate has presented own research at a national or international meeting.

Minimum rating of 2 out of 3 for each reference report.
