Position Summary:

UnderthedirectionoftheProgramSupervisororSupervisoronDuty,theResidentialCounselorisresponsibleforthedailycareandsupervision of agencyclientsandlivingconditions.

Essential Dutiesand Responsibilities:

ResidentialCare

  • Responsibleforcreatingafavorablegroupclimateinwhichthechild’ssafety,emotionalnurturingandhealthydevelopmentareof primaryconcern.
  • Provideschildcare andsupervisionfor theclients.
  • Responsibleforthehourbyhourcare,safety,supervision,protection,guidanceanddisciplineofthegroupasawholeandfor eachchildasanindividual.
  • Responsibleformeetingthehealthandpersonalhygieneneedsofminorsundertheircare(reportanymedicalconcerns tomedicalstaff,providesuppliesanddirectionforproperstandardsofpersonalcare,etc.).
  • Provideacaring,warmenvironmentforthechildrenthroughsettingclearboundaries,supporting,encouraging,andgivingverbalpraiseandacknowledgmenttochildrenforpositiveactionsanddecisionstohelpbuildself-esteem,ageappropriateinterpersonalskills,positivethinking,problemsolving,properlanguage,copingskills,respect for othersandself andbrainstormingalternative,appropriatebehaviors,etc..
  • Maintainknowledgeofthe valuebasedlevelsystemandhowitapplies toeachchild.
  • Maintaindisciplineandgroupcontrolatalltime,reportinganyunresolvedconflictstoasupervisorinatimelymanner.
  • Pro-actandcheckinwiththechildrenfrequentlytopreventcrisissituations.Afteranincidenthasoccurred,follow-upandprocesswiththechildtopreventfurthercrisissituationsandcompleteanynecessarydocumentation.
  • InterveneincrisissituationsaslearnedinTherapeuticCrisisIntervention(TCI)toensurethesafetyofclientsandstaff.
  • Servesnackstotheclientsincoordinationwithotherstaff, perapprovedmenu.Maintainapleasantandcheerfulmealtimeatmosphere,anddinewiththechildrenduringmealtimes,modelingappropriatebehavior,tablemanners,etc.
  • Ensurethatchildrenareproperlydressedforvariousoccasionsandseethattheirclothingisappropriatelycleanedandmaintained.
  • Providetransportationforchildrenasdirectedbyasupervisorasnecessaryandinaccordancewiththeagencytransportpolicy.

  • IncollaborationwiththeRecreationDepartment,structurerecreational/craftactivitiestoenhanceeachchild’ssocialandphysicaldevelopment.
  • Responsiblefor beinganinformedandsupportiveteam member.
  • Responsiblefor readingdormlogandincidentreports.
  • Responsiblefor criticalobservationsandobjectiverecordingof children’s behavior for teamuse.
  • Responsibleformaintaininganeatandorderlydormarea,meetingallTitle22regulationsandthehealthandsafetycodesrequiredof thisagency.
  • Performsroutinehouseholdduties,includingbutnotlimitedto:vacuuming,dusting,laundry,cleaningbathrooms,making beds,cleaningandorganizingclosets,etc.
  • Supervises the chores and workproject ofchildren.
  • Accountableforreportingbuildingandequipmentdamageand/orunsafeconditionsandinitiateactiontocorrect anyunsafeconditions.

OtherDuties

  • Must befamiliarwith,and havethe abilitytocarryout,allemergency/disasterplans.
  • Provides orientation,trainingandsupportto new Residential staff,volunteers,interns,fostergrandparentsandanyotherauxiliarystaff.
  • Attendsandparticipatesinregularstaffmeetingsregardingprogramissues.
  • Attendsmandatoryin-servicetrainings.
  • Completewrittendocumentationperprogramrequirements,andincompliancewithagencypolicyandtraining.
  • Attendandparticipateinteammeetingstobeawareof andfacilitatethedevelopmentandapplicationofneedsandservices treatmentplansfor eachchild,providing documentationasnecessary.
  • Ensureaccuraterecordingofworkedhoursandnotifyasupervisorofanydiscrepanciesinatimelymanner andin accordance withagencyguidelines.
  • Performsother dutiesasassigned.

Qualifications:

Toperformthisjobsuccessfully,anindividualmustbeabletoperformeachessentialdutysatisfactorily.Therequirementslistedbelowarerepresentativeoftheknowledge,skill,and/orabilityrequired.Abilitytoworkvariedhoursincludingnights,weekendsandholidays.Reasonableaccommodationsmaybemadetoenableindividualswithdisabilities toperformtheessential functions.

Education/Experience:

  • Required

•BA/BSDegree, or Child Development Teaching Permit

•or 12 semester units of EarlyChildhoodEducation(ECE)units,Adolescent Developmentunits,Foster and Kinship Care Education and at least 100 hours of experience working with youth

•or valid certificate as an Alcohol Counselor, Drug Counselor or Alcohol and Drug Counselor and at least 100 hours experience working with youth

•or valid Vocational Training certificate, credential or documentation demonstrating experience as a trade journeyperson who instructs children in vocational skills and at least 100 hours experience working with youth

•or previously employed as a staff or volunteer at a group home or short-term therapeutic center for at least one year.

Licenses,Certifications,Registrations:

  • Mustpossess avalid California Driver’sLicense.
  • Must be atleast 21 yearsofage.
  • MustpassFirstAidcertificationcoursebeforestartofemployment.CertificationcanbecompletedthroughtheChildren’sReceivingHome.
  • MustpassCPRwithinthefirstsixweeksofemployment
  • MustpassBloodbornePathogensandTherapeuticCrisisIntervention(TCI)certificationcoursesofferedthroughtheChildren’sReceivingHomewithinthefirstthreemonthsofemployment.
  • Must maintainTCI,CPR,First AidandBBP Certificationthroughout employment.
  • Must complete online MandatedReporter Trainingwithinfirstweek of employment.
