Title: Youth Development Specialist

Reports to:Director of Pre-Employment and Youth Services

Location:Lansdowne

Hours:22 hours (Monday to Saturday)

Position Overview

The Youth Development Specialist will be responsible for delivery and development of positive, engaging and supportive activities for young people at Lansdowne. The YDS will work closely with other members of the Youth Team to ensure that the Choices offer for 11-15 and 16-19 year olds is well planned, relevant and engaging. The YDS will be required to meet service targets defined by the Director of ELDN, and to ensure positive outcomes for young people in line with the Children and Young People’s framework.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The main duties and responsibilities of the role isto actively deliver and develop youth

provisionat Lansdowne, but can be categorized into two areas:

Youth Service

  • Assessing the needs of young people, and planning and delivering sessions related to areas such as health, fitness, smoking, drugs, gangs, violence, relationships and bullying.
  • Delivering activities, community/environmental projects, outdoor education and sporting activities.
  • Befriending and supporting young people in various settings, including outreach work.
  • Mentoring, coaching and giving individuals information, advice and guidance to facilitate personal, social and educational growth in young people as well as encouraging greater social inclusion.
  • Attending regular training and development opportunities to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding and child protection, health and safety and local policy developments
  • Inducting and developing volunteers.
  • Planning sessions and completing robust session plans demonstrating clear reference to the Children and Young Peoples Framework.
  • Completing clear and concise Risk Assessments for sessions.
  • Supporting sessional staff at Lansdowne.
  • Working with parents and community groups to win support for improved provision and acting as an advocate for young people's interests.

Quality Assurance

  • Undertaking administrative tasks, maintaining effective recording systems and responding to routine queries including regularly checking and responding to emails and communicating to colleagues through SLACK.
  • Managing and administering youth and community projects and resources.
  • To provide ICT support to the youth team and assist all our users with any IT related incident when called upon.
  • Effectively utilising Salesforce in the performance management of all our Young members.
  • Regularly monitoring, evaluating and reviewing the quality of the youth provision against the London Youth Quality Mark .
  • Monitor the accreditation and quality assurance process.

Partnership Working

  • Working in partnership with professionals from other organisations that support young people such as social care, health, community police, education, youth offending teams and local authorities.
  • Work with key stakeholders London Youth, The Think Big Hub to maximise on projects and opportunities for the young people.
  • Be actively involved with the Young Lambeth Cooperative.
  • Maintain the partnership working with Oasis Play through the Stockwell Sports Project

Person Specification

Essential / Desirable
Good planning and preparation skills / Experience of delivering Youth provision
Communicate professionally with other relevant agencies, within the boundaries of our confidentiality and information sharing policy / FA Level 1 Qualification
A passion and enthusiasm for supporting and developing young people / Youth Development Degree/Level 3 Youth Work Diploma, Sports related qualification
Skills in Problem solving, prioritisation and planning / Experience working with a diverse group of young people with complex needs
