REPORTS TO: Chief Marketing & Development Officer

ABOUT CAMP KESEM:

Camp Kesem recognizes and embraces the often-overlooked population of children affected by a parent’s cancer. Camp Kesem’s programs help create a life-long community of support, to help address their unique needs. Best know is their camp program - a national network of college student run, FREE summer camps for children ages 6-16 whose parent has or had cancer. Camp Kesem provides a safe and supportive atmosphere where children befriend peers who can uniquely relate to their situation, and gain the strategies and confidence needed to cope with their parent’s illness or death. At the same time, college students develop critical leadership skills as they create, manage, fundraise and run every aspect of their local Camp Kesem chapters.

Since our first camp started at Stanford University in 2000, Camp Kesem has grown to 54 college chapters in 27 states across the country. This summer, we will serve more than 3,000 children and provide leadership opportunities for over 1,400 college student leaders.

Thanks to our 2011 growth strategy, we increased our service reach by over 40% in one year alone; increased the size of our Board of Directors; built affinity groups to mobilize our volunteers and developed long-range strategic and operational plans. Our selection as a LIVESTRONG Community Impact Project recipient allowed us to grow 12 new chapters, fund a National Leadership Summit, and has increased our visibility among national partners such as the YMCA and the Cancer Support Community, to name a few.

Building off of our success to date, we are now charting the course to increase our impact dramatically in the years ahead. There is tremendous opportunity to grow the organization further, until one day we can bring the life‐changing benefits of our camps to the 3 million+ children coping with a parent’s cancer.
