Report on Participation in 23rd India Home Furnishing Fair 2012 held at Osaka, Japan, from 25th to 27th July 2012

A brief about Japan:

India and Japan have a long tradition of business relations. Japan has been a traditional buyer of Indian home furnishings and other similar products. Indian exports to Japan have been growing and have seen a surge in growth after signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), between the two nations during 2011. The signing of this agreement has proved to be yet another milestone in the bilateral trade relations. India’s exports to Japan have increased to US $ 5,091 in 2010-11 from US $ 2,868.12 in 2006-07.

Phased reduction and abolition of duties for select items as proposed in CEPA are likely to offer opportunities, which will be mutually beneficial to the business partners in India and Japan. Now Japanese buyers will have more economical access to Indian products and the resulting demand will ensure more competitiveness from Indian business community.

Global Scenario:

The global demand for woven textiles is likely to grow by 25% in future to over 35 million tons with Asia likely to account for 85% output of growth. The woven product output will also witness a reasonable increase in Central and South American countries.

The imports of textiles from developed economies like the USA and Japan and the western countries of Europe Union, along with some newly emerged economies, such as South Korea and Taiwan are also expected to rise in the forthcoming years.
