Report of Bala vihar activities during the month of August and September 2008.
Greetings from Balavihar team.
Activities that were taken up during this period in the different schools is as follows:
Private schools:
Pinewoods High School:
Activity classes for classes 1st, 2nd,3rd,4th two sections each, one period once a week.
Library reading : classes 3rd and 4th. Once a week. From 1.45 to 2.30 PM
Lending library for children in classes 5th, 6th and 7th. Total 108 members.
Needle work classes for 20 children from classes 5th and 6th.
Drawing and painting for 30 children from classes 5th and 6th.
Drama classes for 35 children from classes 5th and 6th.
Yoga classes for 40 children from classes 5th and 6th.
Singing class for 40 children from classes 5th and 6th.
All these classes are conducted after the school hours between 2.30 to 4. PM.
Making of puppets and presententing a puppet show on the life of Mahatma Gandhi for the Independence day by 14 students of class VII. Two students from class VIII and IX who attended our summer camp, taught these children to do the puppets. This show was performed ten times on 14th August so that all the 1300 odd students of the school could see.
The drama group children joined the puppet show by performing certain episodes from the life of Gandhiji.
The singing group children sang a few songs along with few chants they learnt in their singing class.
Personality developments classes were conducted for class VII three sections during the school hours (one period once a week)
Science experiments were conducted for the students of class VIII. (once a week on Saturday)
Luminary English School.
Special games for classes V to IX once a week for one hour. ( Three groups)
Clay modelling and painting them for classes VI to IX.
Paper craft for class VI.
Paper weaving for class V.
Story telling for class IV.
Lending library for 63 students from class V to IX.
Government Schools.
Govindaraja Nagar: Spoken English classes for class IX two sections one and half hours twice a week. ( 96 students) On the last day of the term we had a group presentation ,
Gangondanahalli: Spoken English classes for class VII ( 45 students) twice a week (one hour)
Prashant Nagar: English classes for class IV and V
Nachiketa Center (For Marenahalli Govt.school children)
English classes for 35 students from class V to IX, needle work, drawing,l
indoor games and puzzles. Thrice a week for two hours 5 to 7 PM
Chaitanya tutorials: Personality development classes for 15 children from class VIII to X.
:Purchases: We added some books to the library, bought some language games, indoor games and a steel cupboard for Luminary School.
We had a visitor during the first week from Connecticut, US , Mrs.Laura and her daughter Caroline. They spent a couple of hours in four of our schools and had a good interaction. The government school kids got a good opportunity to use their spoken English lessons. The children in the private schools, asked many questions about her country and about the issues the students encountered.
The schools have exams from the 22nd September. So our sessions with them were wound up in the third week. We thank Asha, CCD for their valuable support.
