RESPONSIBLE FOR / Provision of childcare services within the Children’s Centre and the wider extended provision within the Children’s Centre

PURPOSE OF JOB / To contribute to the co-ordination and management of the Children’s Centre services provided by the School, working in close collaboration and partnership with the ‘core offer’ providers, ensuring:
· the effective management and development of the childcare services and staff team;
· the creation, development and maintenance of effective relationships with key partners within the local area to support and encourage the development of extended services provision by the Centre within the local community;
· the encouragement of activities to increase capacity of the School and Children’s Centre whilst reducing repetition and ensuring high quality of service;
· communication with potential users and seek resources for sustainable activities; and
· support for the regeneration of the local community and the raising of educational standards throughout the local Children’s Centre catchment working with relevant teaching staff

Childcare & Extended Schools Manager - Wybourn Community Primary/Nursery School and Children’s Centre
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The postholder must at all times carry out his/her responsibilities within the spirit of the City Council’s Policies and Procedures, in particular the Council Policies on Equal Opportunities and Health and Safety and also, within the framework of the Education Act 1996.
In conjunction with the Wybourn Community Primary/Nursery School and line managed by the Headteacher to develop a coherent programme of extended school activities across the Centre engaging wide and inclusive participation by members of the local communities.
Main Tasks
Management and Leadership
· To have responsibility for contributing to the development, management, organisation and administration of quality childcare services provided within the Centre reach area in accordance with statutory requirements, Council policy and the Integrated Children’s Centre guidance.
· To be a member of the School’s Senior Leadership Team
Governance and Planning
· To support the Centre’s governance and provide appropriate information and feedback on finance and service development.
· To produce termly written progress reports for consideration by the Headteacher and bodies responsible for the Centre’s governance
· To work with the Headteacher and other colleagues to devise and lead on a strategy for further consultation with students, parents and the wider community in relation to extended provision.
· To work with stakeholders to devise and implement an Action Plan, incorporating school improvement priorities, to move forward the delivery of the extended provision.
· To plan and develop quality integrated childcare, play and learning experiences in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage, which respond to the needs of children and families and promote inclusive practices.
· To assist the School to complete the electronic audit of extended schools work as required by the Sheffield CYPD.
· To undertake a full review of all current data (including electronic audit data) relating to extended development and activities and summarise the current position in relation to the delivery of the extended offer.
Service Delivery
· To be responsible for the co ordination and allocation of places in conjunction with other childcare services in the local area and in line with the city-wide Early Years Strategy.
· To develop and monitor outreach childcare services which support the delivery and development of quality play and learning experiences in the local community, working in close collaboration with co-ordinators of other local services (e.g. Community Based Childcare Network Co-ordinators, Extended School Co-ordinators, ‘core offer’ providers).
· To contribute to the achievement of the Centre’s vision and values through self-assessment, the implementation of development plans and continually reviewing, developing and improving systems, processes and services.
· To contribute to communication with Parents / Carers to promote the benefits of effective parenting, access to guidance and available pathways for family & adult learning and ‘core offer’.
· To seek resources and additional funding to develop a sustainable, cost effective and efficient programme of activities.
Staffing and Professional Development
· To provide leadership and management, contributing to the effective recruitment, induction and development of all staff the post holder has responsibility for.
· To attend staff development sessions across the schools and the wider community relevant to the promotion of the extended provisionl programme.
· To promote, support and encourage the continuous professional development of the childcare team.
· To undertake appropriate professional development and attend conferences and meetings as required and report back as necessary.
· To facilitate the sharing of good practice in moving forward the delivery of the extended offer and to collect a portfolio of evidence and seek national standards of recognition for their area of responsibility.
· To work in close cooperation with the CYPD Extended Schools Development Manager and attend all required training and other appropriate events.
· To represent the Centre, where appropriate, in internal and external forums, as required.
Premises
· To contribute to the overseeing of the maintenance and fabric of the Children’s Centre and its contents and for the effective management of delegated budgets in line with the Council’s financial instructions.
