SIRAGU

SIRAGU (a school streamlining the begging children, street children & child laborers)

Siragu successfully completed 3 academic years and stepped into the fourth academic year 2006-07.

A small update

* School started in June 2003 with 34 kids and now reaching out to more than 300 kids this year.

* Being the Secretary and Correspondent of Siragu, I play different roles in the project.

* Bringing out more concepts and streamlining the activities of the school, changes in curiculam, motivational factors introduced to motivate the team effort of Siragu family.

* Adopted various methods of Education and bringing more professionals as role models to school and introduced to children for positive interaction and knowledge as an outcome.

* facing several challenges at one time, struggling to retain the position reached and fighting with problems to keep the momentum going.

* SIRAGU this year, educating more than 15 children who come from NARI KURAVAR COMMUNITY and they stay in the hostel and access to quality education provide by Siragu.

COURAGE AND CONFIDENCE BEING THE BANK BALANCE AND NO COMPROMISE ON QUALITY IN EDUCATION, SIRAGU PROCEEDING WITH MORE ASPIRATIONS.

Morning a team from Smile Welfare Foundation come for Flag Hoisting and children performed different program

Evening Cine Actor PARTHIBAN visited the school and interacted with the kids and also extended financial support worth R.40000/-

HEALTH CARE PROGRAMS

April 16, 2006

-Free Pranic Healing introductory session and a healing camp organized by Suyam for the benefit local residents of nearby areas of Suyam Office (Pranic Healing is a scientifically proven method of healing people without touching the body of the patient/beneficiary).

-49 beneficiaries were attended the program arranged in the auditorium of Dr.G.M.T.T.V.Hr.Sec.School, Chennai – 79.

MEDICAL ASSISTANCE ACTIVITIES

As per our guidance tsunami affected young boy from Nagapattinam District brought to Chennai and taken by Mr.Muthuram to Dr.Ashok Kumar of RigidHospital. He had studied the boy and identified the level of the boy’s heart disease and suggested for Open Heart Surgery. Few months after, the boy undergone Open Heart Surgery in GeneralHospital, Chennai.

COUNSELING PROGRAMS & ADVOCACY

May 04, 2006

Family counseling given to Mrs.Rajalakshmi (named changed here) and also referred to Advocate and trying our best to reunite with her husband and not to encourage for Divorce.

27th September 2006

Counseling given to a poor student of MadrasMedicalCollege studying B.Pharmacy 2nd year and also accommodation provided at Suyam. Also arranged for treatment through RamachandraHospital, Porur.

SSA (Sarva Shiksha Abyan)

Suyam successfully completed 1st year SSA project with Government and awarded as a Best NGO in Thiruvallur District on successful implementation of SSA program in Minjur & Villivakkam blocks in Thiruvallur District.

Reached out to 850 students through 50 Alternative & Innovative Education Centers able to reunite maximum number of students to the local schools and also those students who cannot access the schools helping them to write their Public Exams (X Std). 12 students were on line and also arranged for special coaching for them to face their exams in March-April 2007.

Even this year 2006-07, taken up both the Minjur & Villivakkam Blocks and opening up more AIE centers and residential schools.

About Summer Camp

Summer time is best time for children to relax and re-energize for the new academic session. Vacation is a period where children can learn new things that can help them revitalize. Suyam Charitable Trust brought children from tsunami affected region, from children homes & from SiraguMontessoriSchool for the revitalization process. We believe that children are natural learners and have great talents if given a proper environment for growth. The camp was very much creative and really kindled the skills of children boosted their creativity, confidence and courage.

My Feedback

* Really an eye opening for me.

* Over 64 Indian delegates from different parts of India and Abroad attended the conference

* Held in IIIT, Hyderabad – Able to interact with students of IIIT

* Hospitality was excellent and food menu was filled with Natural Food

(Highly impressed with the Natural Food served in the Shivir. With the guidance of Dr.Vijaya Venkat, served Natural Food to the guests of my marriage with Mr.Muthuram on 28th September).

* Got valuable contacts and many of them interested in supporting Siragu project.

* Students of IIIT collected some amount and contributed to Suyam and also sent some amount on the occasion of Diwali celebrations @ Siragu.

Myself reached Kanpur on 29th Evening and given her speech in the Sammelan and attended last day program and interacted with many Eminent personalities who come from throughout India. It was a wonderful opportunity for me to interact with many delegates who come from different parts of India and also met Asha Volunteers whom we met in MURADABAD conference.

RURAL EMPOWERMENT – ENTREPRENEURIAL SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

* ½ day Seminar gave an opportunity to meet the leaders of many Self Help Groups

* Able to meet Mr.Y.S.Rajan, close associate of Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam (Mr.Rajan already met Siragu children @ CLRI, Adyar and quite impressed upon SIRAGU kids’ answering skills).

* In the Question hour, self raised 3 questions on various topics and got audience response and appreciated by people on the Diaz.

* Every seminar is useful in some way and learning experience, this seminar also given us more ideas about Rural Empowerment and Entrepreneurial Skills Development.

Project : Student Follow Up Program @ PULICAT (Pazhaverkadu)

Program : Distribution of All Subject Guides to X Std Students

Concept

Suyam successfully performed under SSA Program 2005-06 in Minjur Block (Thiruvallur District) and run 28 centers with total beneficiaries of 480 children. Students those who were regular to the AIE centers were motivated to write their X Std exams.

Program in Detail

The result of motivation brought 12 students to write their X Std Exam. 9 students were given New Guide for all the five subjects today. Further a local tutorial approached to give special coaching for these students at the cost of Rs.800/- per student to appear in the private exams to be held in March-April 2007.
