Purpose of Report

To present proposals for celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the AONB designation in 2018

Summary

2018 will mark the 60th Anniversary of the AONB designation and the 10th Anniversary of the Surrey Hills Society. The AONB Board reviewed the 50th anniversary events to inform a brainstorming session which identified initial ideas. The AONB Board also agreed that the terms of reference for the Surrey Hills Communications Group should be extended with a small budget in 2017/18 to help develop ideas and coordinate funding bids.

The broad principles included an opportunity to:

  • Raise the profile of the Surrey Hills
  • Demonstrate the effectiveness of the AONB designation and the work of the Surrey Hills Family; particularly an opportunity to raise funds for the Surrey Hills Trust Fund and increase membership
  • Health and well being
  • Regional and inclusive
  • Participatory and fun
  • Recorded through film, photography and social media
