The purpose of this guide is to help you with the most common needs for updating the website content. Some methods (such as Adobe Flash file maintenance or modification) that may be too advanced or require experience in the use of advanced software is best left to individuals with appropriate experience.

Step 1 – Write article
Once you login, click “Write Article” from the left navigation menu.
Step 2 – Enter headline
Enter the desired headline title for the news submission.
Step 3 – Insert teaser and side image
Insert the teaser. Ideal length is 1-3 sentences.
Then, click to place the text cursor before the first letter of the first sentence. Click the “Insert/edit image” button on the taskbar:
Now, on the new window that pops up, under the “General” tab you will see a “General” box that has text boxes for Image URL, Image Description, and Image Title.
For Image URL, you must place /news/ before the filename. Note the forward slash before “news” AND after “news”. This is important. After the last forward slash, type in the filename exactly as you created it and uploaded it to the server.
NOTE: Do not place spaces in the filenames when you upload to FTP. The server interprets spaces in the filename differently than a normal computer. Ex. Do not use/create a file with the name “boats news.jpg”. Instead, use no spaces or use an underscore for easier readability, “boats_news.jpg” or “boatsnews.jpg”.
For the Description, leave it blank. For the title, generally a good idea is to just copy and paste the article headline.
If you linked to the image correctly, it will display in the box below labeled “Preview.”
Now, click the Appearance tab still on the small pop up window. Select “Left” from the drop down selection box. Then enter “4” in vertical and horizontal space. Click the insert button at the bottom and you are done with the teaser box. The popup window will now close and you should see the small image to the left of your text with the text properly wrapping around the image.
Step 4 – Insert body of the text
Now that the teaser and side image are done, just copy and paste the rest of your article in the “Article” box.
Step 5 – Publish the article
Now that the entire news submission is done, you just need to publish this to be immediately viewable on Thehabanaco.com/news or you can save it as a draft and return to edit it later. If the article is set as a draft, it will not be made public on Thehabanaco.com/news page.
You may want to change the date of this article if you are not intending it to be displayed from today.
If you just want to change the date of the article, such as to be a press release from two months ago, just change the “Article Date” and you can leave the “Released” date alone. When the story is published, it will display the date from two months ago, not today’s date.
If you want to make this article automatically publish at a future date, then just change the “Released” date to whatever appropriate date in the future you want it to begin publishing on Thehabanaco.com/news. The “Article date” is whatever date you want to be shown within the body of the news text.
You’re Done.

General Tips
Note that a filename should never have capitalization or spaces for the sake of convenience and ease of accessibility. Instead of using spaces, use a dash “-“ or underscore “_” instead.
Ex.: Tiki Bar.zip
On the web, spaces are not interpreted literally. That filename would actually read as: “Tiki%20Bar.zip” which is confusing. While the capitalization is OK, it might be hard to remember.
Instead, try: tikibar.zip or tiki_bar.zip
Note that if you ever upload and overwrite a file, the change will be made immediately. If a change is made to a .html or similar file, the changes will be made immediately and there is no backup file kept on the server if a problem arises.
If you are about to overwrite an image or .html file and you are not sure if the changes you will make are desirable or correct, I recommend making a “backup” folder either on the server or on your computer of the original file you intend to overwrite, so that if there is a problem you can simply re-upload the backup.
Root directory
/
When you first login, you will be presented with the root directory of the site. Any files uploaded to this directory will be web-accessible from the root address. For example, if I uploaded readme.txt to the root directory, it would be web-accessible as
You can verify that you are in the root directory by looking at the location/address bar and seeing a single forward slash “/” as the current directory.
Public downloads folder
/download
To access the public downloads folder I created for you, login to the FTP server, and double click the “download” folder within the root directory.
You can verify that you are in the download directory by looking at the location/address bar and seeing a single forward slash followed by the word download “/download” as the current directory.
Note that this folder is not password protected. You will also not be able to browse uploaded files by going to You will need to know the exact filename in order to download the file. For example if I upload pictures.zip to the download folder, I will be able to download it only if I type in
Collection folder
/collection
The pages and images for the Collection clothing is located in /collection folder. The clothing files are located in: /collection/clothing
Once you are within the clothing folder, you will see a number of folders for each product (ex., grander, havana, legend, etc.). Within each folder is the image files for the collection pages (ex., grander_detail_thumb1.jpg). Make sure if you intend to replace the files that you keep the same file names or the product page on the collection section of the site will not work.
News folder
/news
Note that to edit news, you must login to the News system as described in the other documentation. However, you might find it easy to keep all news related images (logos, pictures, etc.) within the news folder for organization.
Simply upload the images you wish you use in news posts into the /news folder and remember the filenames for future use.
Using the Downloads Component
The purpose of the Downloads component is to allow you an easy way to upload files to the web server without the need of a FTP client. Please note it is best to use a FTP client when uploading several files for convenience and shortest time.
To access the Downloads component, go to:
The browser will prompt you to input your secure username and password. Enter the following information:
Username: XXXXX
Password: XXXXXXXXX
You will now view a page with a browse button to select your file to upload and a submit button. Click “Browse” and search your hard drive for the file you wish to upload. When you have selected your file, click “Submit” to upload the file to the server.
If the file is large in size (above 15mb), please be patient for the file transfer. Exiting the browser page early or trying to view another page before the file transfer is complete will result in a failed file transfer. If the file transfer was successful, you will see an updated screen that will state “File uploaded”, followed by the filename and the temporary hash file name with the path on the server.
To access the files you or other authorized users have uploaded to the server to download, go to:
Please note, you may have to go through authorization if you are accessing this address at a later time.
You will now see a list of filenames, all linked, that are uploaded to the server. Click on any of the desired filenames to begin downloading them from the server to your hard drive. Each filename is listed in order of file ID number.
Alternatively, you may download the file by ID number. To do so, you would go to the following address:
Where “X” is the number of the file ID (e.g. id=4). Putting that address in your browser and hitting “Go” would then initiate the download of the respective file.
