Relational Ministry Actions (RMA’s)

High School Ministry Overview

The foundation of High School ministry is relational evangelism. An effective High School ministry is defined by nine RMA’s. They are the strategic actions for the High school ministry director to accomplish responsible evangelism of youth.

1. Contacting (outreach)

-Meeting students on their turf. When contacting, the goal is to promote ministry, initiate new

relationships, and grow existing relationships.

“For the son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.” Luke 19:10

2. Building Time (growth)

-Spending time getting to know students by using a variety of activities that provide opportunities to

live out the Christian lifestyle, and to create the potential to take relationships to a new level.

“Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.” 1 Corinthians 11:1

3. Club/Large Groups (outreach)

-A weekly large group meeting that is high energy, safe, fun and non-Christian friendly. The

content is applicable to the students’ everyday life and introduces the relevance of a personal relationship with Christ. There should be at least 50% non- Christians involved.

“He welcomed them and spoke to them about the Kingdom of God.” Luke 9:11

4. Appointments (outreach/growth)

-“Getting together” 1-on-1 to provide individual attention and meet a student’s specific need,

including where they stand in their relationship with Christ.

“We instructed you how to live in order to please God…” 1 Thessalonians 4:1

5. Small Groups (growth)

-Providing a caring environment to meet a specific groups’ needs.

“…we were delighted to share with you not only the Gospel of God but our very lives as well.”

1 Thessalonians 2:8

6. Trips/Events (outreach)

-Trips: taking students out of their environment for a shared experience.

-Events: A unique activity that increases the visibility of the High School ministry.

“You know how we lived among you for your sake.” 1 Thessalonians 1:5b

7. Student Leadership (leadership)

-Christian students who are committed to High School ministryas a means of reaching their friends for Christ (living a balanced life in the midst of others).

“And whatever you do or say, let it be as a representative of the Lord Jesus, and come with Him into

the presence of God the Father to give Him your thanks.” Colossians 3:17

8. Follow Up (growth/leadership)

-Establishing the basics of the Christian life with a new believer and leading them into a local

church.

“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in

him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” Colossians 2:6-7

9. Community Relations (leadership)

-Development of community ownership of a High School ministry, through relationships with

Christian adults. This will include fundraising for the project.

“In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise

your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
