Rehearsal & Tryout

Information

Step rehearsals/tryouts will be open to freshman, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Step Tryouts on September12th and 13th. Location will be announced.Tryouts will begin promptly at 4:00 pm. At alltimes, you should be dressed out, sitting in the designated area and ready to begin. Your ride should be there to pick you up by 7:00 pm on the 12th and 6:00 pm on the 13th. Anyone whose ride arrives later than 7:00 pmand 6:00 pm. is subject to dismissal from tryouts.

Attire:

All participants must be dressed appropriately to tryout. This includes “step” pants, jogging pants, gym/basketball shorts, tee shirt, or tank top. NO SHORT SHORTS or other short shorts allowed. There should be absolutely no mid-drift showing. Violation of the dress code for tryouts will result in your dismissal. An attire check will be performed prior to starting tryouts so please choose your clothing wisely.

Requirements:

Candidates will be required to learn and perform a specific step sequence. There will also be a freestyle part of the tryout. All candidates will be judged on the following criteria: showmanship, skill, grades, teacher recommendations, teamwork and attitude. A negative attitude will disqualify you from the team.

Teacher Recommendation:

Twoteacher recommendation forms will be provided. The teacher recommendation forms must be completed and returned to Mr. Moffett’s mailbox by September12th, 2017.

* Recommending teachers should complete, fold/staple and personally put Mr. Moffett’s mailbox. No step candidates should turn in these forms.

Physical Examination:

I must have a copy of a current physical turned in with your paperwork (if earning a place on the team). It is not acceptable to say that your physical is “on-file”. I need to have a paper copy.

Parent’s Meeting:

There will be a mandatory parent’s meeting to be announced (TBA) for all step team members and their parent or guardian.

Membership Fee:

Each Step Team member is required to pay a non-refundable fee of $50.00.

Policies

  • All school and academic policies will be enforced.
  • Step Team members are responsible for promoting school spirit during the week, at pep rallies and at games.
  • In the event that a Stepper is absent from practice, it is his/her duty to learn what was discussed and decided and to fulfill the duties assigned.
  • When representing the school officially, steppers are to be in full prescribed uniforms.
  • Steppers are to attend all games and practices required by the coach/sponsor, unless excused by the coach/sponsor.
  • All scheduled practices are mandatory.
  • All coach/sponsor scheduled practices are mandatory (including fundraisers).
  • Any member failing to abide by published school rules relating to conduct, use of drugs, alcoholic beverages, tobacco products or other illegal activities will be subject to review by the coach. This includes being present in any location where the above occurs, regardless whether the students used or processed any of the items listed.
  • Any Stepper who is assigned in-school or out-of-school suspension (during season) will be suspended for one week from stepping. He/she must still attend the event, but will be benched.
  • Friends will not be allowed to sit with the step team at games.
  • Cell phones will not be used during practice or games.
  • No gum during practice or games.
  • No excessive talking or playing will be allowed at practice or games.
  • Steppers will wear appropriate spirit wear to school on game days and spirit days.
  • No jewelry will be worn while stepping or in uniform.

I understand that any violation of any policy contained within this handout can result in my immediate dismissal from the squad or other penalties as deemed necessary by the coach/sponsor. If I am dismissed, I must return all items provided by Nu Mu Sigma, and I forgo the right to participate in Step Team activities. Furthermore, I understand that there will be no refunds for monies paid to New Manchester High School. I understand the commitment I am making. My parent/guardian does support the Nu Mu Sigma Policies.
