5. Old Business

  • Scope of Practice- Two Letters Doug Collins

Discussion / Action
Scope of Practice to be attached to letters for Chaplain Employers. Discussion as to whose name should be at the bottom, agreed that name of Chair is most appropriate. / Bryan and Doug will work together to finalize the letters to send out to the Coordinating Committee to comment, before final editing and circulation among wider membership.
Discussion / Action
Format of the letter will be given to members, to be accessible in occasions when it is appropriate to send out.
Second letter, a letter of advocacy for when Chaplains position is called into question is being developed- this initially was to be a letter to the Shepherds of Good Hope, but has been drafted into a letter any chaplain might use.
  • Task Group on Chaplain Networking InitiativeDoug Collins

Discussion / Action
Sylvia wrote a note to Doug which was shared raising questions:
1. What is the overall aim, is it to attract new members into CASC or to be collegial with Chaplains outside of healthcare- perhaps its best not to scare through CASC marketing, but sharing information and sharing concerns.
2. How to connect with others- who should be contacted? Group discussed other organizations, such as Salvation Army, Algonquin College Chaplain Advisory committee, which employ Chaplains. / - If members have network connections to Chaplaincy outside of healthcare, send names/ideas to Doug who try to connect.
  • CASC ONE Region Contact Information Doug Collins

Discussion / Action
Members to update their contact information with CASC ONE- if members have two separate emails it creates multiple accounts which make it challenging to collect accurate membership data. Members are to go in and decide if they want all their email contacts available or would like to narrow down to a singular email contact. / Doug Collins suggests that members should use personal emails with CASC National account, but for ONE work emails are okay.
  • Long Distance Learning BursaryDoug Collins/ Linda Miller

Discussion / Action
Waiting on a proposal to be submitted. / Nicholas to connect with Neil Elford to create a proposal for long-distance education bursaries.

6. New Business

appointment to Ethics Chair

Discussion / Action
Brenda Haggett is introduced. / Linda Miller moves that Brenda Haggett be accepted as acting Ethics Chair until AGM in November.
Catherine Tyndall seconds the motion.
General Consensus.
  • CRPO UpdateAll

Discussion / Action
March 2017 is the official end of the grandfathering period formembers to join the CRPO. After such time members will have to go through regular application process.
A small group is tasked with yearly renewals of licenses, sometimes a slow turn around- continue to check to see status on personal license renewal.
Vivian asked about what kind of education needs are there for Chaplain members of CRPO- would they look to CASC for information, or seek out individually through CRPO. Doug encourages members to seek information through CASC, as Linda points out that CRPO is established to serve public, not CASC. / Vivian requests that members email her with education needs they might have regarding CRPO, so she can plan for the Networking Day in 2017.

THE CHAPLAINS FELLOWSHIP- no meetings during the summer months.
