Region 56 President’s Meeting

1)  Roll call:

c.  CSEA Committee Guests present: Marc Gonzalez/Conference, Machelle Kessinger/PACE

2)  Reports:

a.  Conference: Marc passed out a “Set Sail” post card announcing the CSEA Conference dates. He extends a lending hand for those chapters that would like to apply for Delegate Assistance.

b.  PACE: Committee has an upcoming meeting in Sacramento. Machelle is hoping that the committee finalizes a presentation on filling out the CSEA FARFE form for PACE Funds. She reports that a few chapters were turned down for funds due to an incomplete form. She is also willing to do a presentation in future RPM’s once the presentation is complete. Machelle also is willing to do Victory Club presentations in chapter meetings.

c.  RR: Reminds us that the deadline for CSEA Scholarships is March 31st. These scholarships are for 2013-2014 school year. Also reminds us that the final Pre-Retirement Seminar for Area C is March 23rd in Monterrey, CA.

d.  LRR: No report

e.  Minutes: January minutes were available and no corrections noted.

f.  Training Symposium: Milpitas hosted the symposium on January 26th. 70 members from Area C were present. It was needed to cancel 2 courses offered, due to low registration. The members from the cancelled courses enjoyed their alternative course.

g.  Area Director: Cindy reports that she is very happy for the November victories that CSEA worked on. Now CSEA will continue to work very closely with the CA legislature to keep moving the school classified needs moving forward, including a bill to include classified in “Staff Development”. Paraeducator’s Conference will be in April in San Jose. The conference will have new workshops for clerical employees also. She reminds us that February is “Have a Heart Month” and encourages chapters to donate to the Dorothy Bjork Humanitarian Fund. CSEA has payroll deduction applications for those that want to donate the whole year! She also announced that she was elected to be on the Alameda Central Labor Council.

h.  South Bay Labor Council: Ben Field (Executive Director) introduces himself and the labor council. He gives a run down of the political activities and the process the labor council does every election cycle. He extends an invitation to all chapters in the area to affiliate with the SBLC and is willing to speak at chapter meetings about affiliation.

i.  Installation: Donnell installs Tracy Loftin as Vice President of Alum Rock #305

j.  Regional Representative: CSEA announcements.

  1. Chapters C&B’s: asked for chapters to review timelines for CSEA Conference Chapter Delegates.
  2. Mary Kay Ezell Assistance Fund Golf Tournament: Donnell passed out a flyer to announce the tournament day and the possibility to attend or “Sponsor-a-Hole”.
  3. Member of the Year Awards: applications and information to nominate a CSEA member to be honored at CSEA Conference.
  4. Chapter Release Time Program: Donnell had information for chapters to apply for CSEA Chapter Release Time.

k.  Roundtable Reports: chapters made presentations and were encouraged to turn in written reports to Fil.
