Sunsets are great!
Mom took the opportunity to take a couple of nice sunset pictures this evening.
Heat and Humidity up!
It is just really hot in Morris, and the upper floors of the Boyd hotel are unbearably sticky. Fans everywhere can barely make up for the dew point at 70ºF. I hope it will get better soon, but probably not before Sunday.
Bathing business
Martina and Mom took an extensive stay in the blue wading pool in the backyard today. Martina was very adamant about not wearing a hat, but Mom insisted. It ended in a draw and a wet hat. Martina enjoyed the sun-warm water, and sat, laid and splashed for a long while. She also tried to eat her share of grass, but the pool was so slippery that she needed her hands to hold on.
Changes in travel plans
The travel plans just became much more complicated. Teresa has been at Gramma’s already for two weeks. However, we need to be in Michigan two weeks from now, since Daddy will have to go to Cleveland and to Fort Wayne. So, we will be joining Gramma and Teresa by the end of next week in DeWitt (9th or 10th of July), and stay a little. Mom really hopes that Teresa is strong and will be okay with staying for four weeks. It is a long time to be away from home. Mom wants Teresa to know that everything here is fine, Timm is caring for the cats, and it is very hot in her room anyway. She also is looking forward to come back and see her and Gramma. Mom hopes that Teresa brushes her teeth every day . Look at the bright side – I am not nagging you, my dear!
Daddy column
Daddy’s butt itched today, but it feels better now after he scratched it. He also has a new wonderful hair cut, which surely helped him in talking to the people in Fort Wayne on the phone. Daddy still does not like most of the things the government does.
One-handed tricks
Martina becomes more and more steady on her feet. She walked a long way in the hallway at work yesterday, held only by one hand. Mom had taken her to campus to pick something up from the library. Unfortunately, it was so hot that Martina was not really happy in the stroller, and cried a lot. However, the string cheese and wieners for lunch consoled her little bit.
Old Number One
To celebrate the new job developments for Daddy and to escape the hot house for a while, the family went to the Old Number One this evening. The waitress forgot to order Daddy’s dinner, so he got to eat the seafood buffet for free. The she forgot to put Timm’s dinner on the bill. Daddy told her, though. I guess the waitress just had a bad day.
Early Mornings
That baby insists on getting up at 6 am. She stands in her bed and wails and hollers until Mom had enough and gets up with her. Needless to say, Martina goes back to bed at 8 am, but Mom does not. Therefore she is very tired all the time, but still goes to work, and enjoys the freedom to work on research and to write programs.
Slugs are out
Don’t read this if you are squeamish! There are lots of rather disgusting slugs under the bricks by the sand box. Mom killed them with salt. Scenes from a horror movie.
Rock hits lawn mower
When mowing around the rock bed, mom’s lawn mower gave a crash and then nothing. A big rock had rolled into the lawn, from the bedding border, and had gotten under the mower. Ouch! One wonders how it got there, and all eyes turn to the 9-year-old girl whose meditation path goes right around that rock border …
Timm working a lot
Timm is working at the movies tonight and at the Pizza Ranch tomorrow. He has some pretty bad fire ant bites on his arm. They are from a tree service project in New Orleans, and take about three weeks to heal.
Kitty news
Sassy and Bob needed to go through many doors again as well, today. In particular the closed ones. In particular if they just went through them the other way. Mostly they are sleeping and trying to stay cool.
