Recognition – CRNA Team Celebrated

The Department of Surgery/Anesthesia celebrated National Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) Week (Jan. 24-30) with a pizza party and cake. I would like to thank our CRNAs for their hard work and dedication in providing the safest care for our patients.

The CRNA team has made a tremendous impact over the past year. We have asked them to cover additional hours and to perform their duties at additional sites. The team has accommodated these requirements in an exemplary way, without additional help.

In addition, our CRNAs have made Adena’s training site for the Otterbein University’s Student Registered Nurse Anesthetist program a favorite, providing the most educational experience for the students.

Please join me in congratulating and thanking our CRNAs when you have the opportunity.

Ambulatory Roll Out Update

Attached to this email, you will find the roll-out schedule for the Meditech Ambulatory module. As you can see, there are four “main waves” of roll-outs, starting July 18th and ending at the end of the year. The yellow pre-live period will include training and preparation activities, the red go-live period is the first two weeks on the new system and will be when you have the most support resources, and the green post live period represents the timeframe where the need for reduced schedules and support resources should be dwindling. The “black-out dates” for Providers, include the dates indicated in yellow and red for their respective clinics; however we strongly recommend that vacation also be avoided in the green timeframes as you will have the highest concentration of support directed toward you, and we want to ensure that you have sufficient help during the learning curve.

In order to make preparations for this transition, you should start working with your clinic Manager to define your schedule preferences during the “go-live period”. I acknowledge that it will be difficult for you to have a firm understanding of how you want to handle your schedule, but working through a general plan is recommended. Some have suggested a reduced template in the first few days, some a week, and others prefer the first two weeks. Again, this will be a decision that you should make as you have the best knowledge of how quickly you will be able to adjust to a new EMR. Some considerations for scheduling and topics of discussion with your Manager include but aren’t limited to the following:

  • Staggered start times; for example, 1-2 providers in your group could start at 0800, then another 1-2 at 1000, etc.
  • Early start times, extended hours, or weekend availability to allow access to our patients
  • Moving annual follow-ups prior to go-live (where appropriate)
  • Increasing the new/acute visit slots during go-live to allow quick access to our ill patients
