Dear Valued Customer:

Spring has sprung! On behalf of everyone at Pure Air Natives Inc, we want to thank you for choosing us for your CRP and other planting project needs this past year. We are dedicated to providing our customers with the best quality seed and equipping you with the information needed to make your plantings a success!

You will see some vegetation the first year following the planting, although most of the native species are working on developing a root system. It is VERY IMPORTANT to ward off competing vegetation the first year. If competing vegetation goes untreated, it can canopy the seedlings keeping sunlight and moisture from reaching the slower growing native wildflowers. We recommend mowing each time the average height of the vegetation reaches 12-16 inches tall. And DO NOT mow shorter than 6 inches tall. Plan on mowing at least two times the first year, but the planting may require additional mowing, weather dependent. These additional mows will not damage the new seedlings. Mow as many times as necessary up to August 15th, then stop for the year. The native plant roots need to build up carbohydrates for the winter. Spot spraying with an approved herbicide (Roundup® or Rodeo®) is also recommended instead of using broad spectrum herbicides which could damage or kill some natives. For smaller plantings, hand pulling weeds works too!

The second year requires much less maintenance. Mowing the area once between March 15th and May 1st when vegetation reaches 12-16 inches tall. Spot spraying any unwanted vegetation/weeds as necessary.

It’s also a good idea to check with your private land consultant/advisor for maintenance recommendations or refer back to your maintenance/management instructions included in your “planned seeding” paperwork.

If for any reason you have questions or comments, we are delighted to hear from you. Call the office to speak with one of us, or send us email.

Again, thank you for your patronage. We appreciate your business!

Sincerely,

Jennifer Eggemeyer
