Read “A Tricky Monkey.” State your opinion about Kojo the Monkey. / Using the provided posters to make an inference.Record your inference on the recording sheet.
Read the provided passages and draw a conclusion for each passage.
Create a t-chart and identify facts and opinions from the provided passages. / Analyze all of the illustrations in the story “The Harvest Birds.”
Make an inference for each illustration.
Read, “The Harvest Birds” pgs. 204-215.
Check to see if your inferences are correct.
Think about and explain how each illustration supports the story. / Construct a story using academic vocabulary. Stories should include descriptive words and illustrations.

Scale One-Reread the assigned text. Recall what the text says. Make inferences/draw conclusions (using I think that means). Use evidence from the text to support your inference/conclusion.
Scale Two- Reread the same text. Identify the descriptive words and the character’s mood in the story.
Scale Three- Discuss how the illustrations and text are connected.
Scale Four- Explain how the illustrations support the text. / Scale One – In groups of 2, read each other’s stories (Scale 4 activity).
Scale Two–Analyze each illustration and explain how the illustrations support the meaning of the text.
Scale Three – Give paper back to owner. Owners will compare their own explanations with their partners’ explanations.
Scale Four – Have a discussion with your partner using “accountable talk.” Was your partner correct or incorrect with his or her explanations? Why? / Newspaper Article: Select an article of your choice. Look at the title and draw conclusions as to what the article is about. Use the illustrations to make inferences about the article.
Create a prediction chart. Write down your conclusions and inferences.
Read and analyze the article. Critique your own predictions. Were they precise? Yes or No. If not, explain how they were different.
