REAPPOINTMENT OFFER LETTER TEMPLATE

On behalf of the Department of ______, I am pleased to reappoint you to a full time faculty position as a Research RANK Professor for a (1-3) year term beginning ______. This is a non-tenure track position. This appointment will end __(date)______, unless your grant funding ends prior to that date. If that were to happen, your end date will be one year after notification that your funding is ending.

For the twelve month fiscal year, 20??-20??, your appointment as a Research (rank) Professor carries a salary of $______. You will continue to receive all employment-related benefits that you are currently enrolled in which include medical plans, dental plans, life insurance, disability and medical and dependent care spending accounts. You will also continue in the University’s retirement program that you are currently enrolled in. Your scholarly work will continue in the area of ______and you will be supported in this position through the following grants and resources:

During the year prior to the expiration of your appointment (20yy- 20yy), you will be reviewed for reappointment. Reappointment will be dependent on current funding streams, contracts, or grant funding as outlined above. In the unlikely event of a negative review or the lack of recurrent funding, the reappointment is for one terminal year (or one year from notification of loss of funding).

It is strongly recommended that you continue to gather and keep track of the materials that will be needed for reappointment and promotion review during the course of your academic career. These include copies of all course materials, teaching materials and publications or demonstrations of professional productivity acquired during your career. A CV in College of Medicine format should record background, publications/scholarly works and service involvement through your career. Teaching outside the laboratory is not a requirement for promotion in this track. However, if you are involved in teaching outside the laboratory, you should collect materials and evaluations related to those activities.

The requirements for promotion within the Research Track include evidence of sustained research funding and your role in the research enterprise. These criteria are described in more detail in the College's Policies and Procedures Concerning Faculty Appointments, Evaluation and Promotion. There are no deadlines for promotion through the ranks in this track, and in fact, you need not be promoted in order to maintain your faculty position.
