Support for Community Improvement Projects Nationwide- Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation: Community Partners

The Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in the communities where Lowe's operates stores and distribution centers throughout the United States. The Foundation’s Community Partners grant program supports nonprofit organizations and local municipalities undertaking high-need projects such as building renovations and upgrades, grounds improvements, technology upgrades, and safety improvements. Most grants range from $10,000 to $25,000. The application deadline for the spring funding cycle is May 23, 2016; the fall funding cycle will be open from July 1 to August 26, 2016. Student Service-Learning Projects Funded- State Farm Youth Advisory Board: Service-Learning Grants

The State Farm Youth Advisory Board is composed of young adults who demonstrate exemplary work in service-learning, volunteering, and philanthropy in their communities. The Youth Advisory Board's Service-Learning Grants Program funds student-led service-learning projects throughout the United States. Grant requests must fall under one of the following issue areas: community safety and justice, environmental responsibility, access to higher education/closing the achievement gap, health and wellness, economic empowerment and financial literacy, or arts and culture. Public K-12, charter, and higher education institutions are eligible to apply. Nonprofit organizations are also eligible if they are able to demonstrate how they plan to interact with students in public K-12 schools. Grants range from $25,000 to $100,000. Media Organizations and Journalism Schools Supported- Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation

The mission of the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation is to invest in the future of journalism by building the ethics, skills, and opportunities needed to advance principled, probing news and information. The Foundation provides grants to journalism schools and other nonprofit media organizations, with special preference given to programs focusing on ethics and new media. The Foundation focuses its giving on the following program areas: Investigative Reporting, Professional Development, Oklahoma Journalism, and Special Opportunities. CurePSP Accepting Proposals for Investigator-Initiated Projects

CurePSP works to increase awareness of progressive supranuclear palsy, corticobasal degeneration, and other atypical Parkinsonian disorders; funds research toward treatment, cure, and prevention; educates healthcare professionals; and provides support, information, and hope for affected persons and their families. CurePSP is accepting proposals for investigator-initiated research projects. Grants of up to $100,000 will be awarded to projects with the potential to advance understanding, treatment, and prevention of progressive supranuclear palsy, corticobasal degeneration, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis-parkinsonism-dementia complex of Guam and/or Guadeloupean tauopathy, and other atypical Parkinsonian disorders. Kress Foundation Accepting Proposals for Conservation Grants

The Samuel H. Kress Foundation supports projects that illuminate European works of art and architecture from antiquity to the early nineteenth century. As part of that mission, the foundation's Conservation Grants Program provides support for the professional practice of art conservation. Grants are awarded to projects that create and disseminate specialized knowledge, including archival projects, the development and dissemination of scholarly databases, documentation projects, exhibitions and publications focused on art conservation, scholarly publications, and technical and scientific studies. Grants are also awarded for activities that enable conservators and conservation scientists to share their expertise with professional colleagues and a broader audience through international exchanges, professional meetings, conferences, symposia, consultations, the presentation of research, exhibitions that include a prominent focus on materials and techniques, and other professional events.

Grants are awarded to nonprofit institutions with 501(c)(3) status based in the United States, including supporting foundations of European institutions. Consortium Issues RFP for International Research Scholars Program

The International Research Scholars Program, a partnership between the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Wellcome Trust, and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, has issued a Request for Proposals for research projects led by highly qualified scientists working in selected countries outside the United States and United Kingdom who are in the beginning stages of their independent careers.Grants will be awarded to support biomedical research on basic biological and disease mechanisms. The research also may be in areas of chemistry, physics, computer science, or engineering that are directly related to biology or medicine. Each grant is for a term of five years, beginning in July or August of 2017, and will provide $250,000 in the first year and $100,000 for each of the following four years. To be eligible, applicants must hold a doctoral or medical degree and have completed their postdoctoral research training; hold a full-time position as an independent scientist at a research-oriented university, medical school, or nonprofit institution in any country other than the G-7 countries (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom, and the United States); and have received training at the doctoral, medical, or postdoctoral level in the U.S. or UK for at least a year. In addition, applicants must have been the first or senior author on at least two peer-reviewed, English-language original research publications; have started their first independent research position on or after April 1, 2009; control their own research direction, laboratory space, and funding; and devote most of their professional time to research, mentoring, and teaching. Massage Therapy Foundation Invites Submissions for Practitioner Case Report Contest

The Massage Therapy Foundation is inviting submissions for its 2016 Practitioner Case Report Contest, an annual opportunity for massage therapists and bodyworkers to develop research skills and enhance their ability to provide knowledge-based massage to the public. Practitioners must report on an independent clinical intervention involving an individual client. Submissions must include a review of the literature on the presenting condition; a discussion of the creation and implementation of a treatment plan in accordance with the literature, the needs of the client, and the practitioner’s expertise; and a discussion of the implications of the outcomes and suggestions for future study. Cash prizes of up to $2,500 will be awarded to the top reports. In addition, winners will be invited to present their papers at the 2017 AMTA National Convention and will receive up to $1,000 to cover travel and accommodation expenses. Continuing education credit also is available through the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork for submitted reports that adhere to all requirements.

STTI Invites Applications for Research Grants

The mission of the Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International is to advance world health and celebrate nursing excellence in scholarship, leadership, and service. As part of this mission, the society is accepting applications for research projects that focus on the global response to health disparities. Grants of up to $12,000 over twelve month will be awarded through the STTI Research Program. Funds do not cover expenses incurred prior to the funding date of November 1, 2016. To be eligible, the principal investigator(s) should be registered nurses (or country equivalent) with current license and have at least a master's in nursing (or country equivalent). Grants Promote Access to Oral Healthcare- Dental Trade Alliance Foundation

The Dental Trade Alliance Foundation is dedicated to supporting promising initiatives that achieve measurable impact and facilitate real change in oral healthcare. The Foundation is offering grants of up to $25,000 for innovative, sustainable, scalable projects designed to increase access to oral healthcare for those in need. Funded projects should not only improve access to oral care in their immediate area, but also have the potential to grow and be implemented in other areas of the country. Applications are accepted from dental organizations, dental schools, universities, government organizations, and nonprofit organizations for programs located in the United States and its territories. (The Foundation is also offering one Foundation/Dental Lifeline Network Grant of up to $25,000 for a project specifically related to providing access to dentistry for individuals with disabilities, or those who are elderly or medically compromised.) Grants Address Health Issues in Company Communities- Walgreens Charitable Donations Program

The Walgreens Charitable Donations Program supports nonprofit organizations in local Walgreens communities throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. Walgreens provides grants to organizations that focus on access, outreach, and education geared towards health in their communities; pharmacy education programs and mentoring initiatives; civic and community outreach; and emergency and disaster relief. Health is the company's major area of focus, with priority given to programs that address the health needs of community residents. Online applications may be submitted throughout the year. ELSA U. PARDEE FOUNDATION- Cancer Research Grants

The Elsa U. Pardee Foundation funds research to investigators in United States non-profit institutions proposing research directed toward identifying new treatments or cures for cancer. The Foundation particularly encourages grant applications for a one year period which will allow establishment of capabilities of new cancer researchers, or new cancer approaches by established cancer researchers. It is anticipated that this early stage funding by the Foundation may lead to subsequent and expanded support using government agency funding. Project relevance to cancer detection, treatment, or cure should be clearly identified. By design, there are no limits set on the grant amount that can be requested. It must be reasonably and clearly supported by the scope of the project outlined in the application. Applications requesting more than 15% overhead are usually not considered. Papers verifying nonprofit status and relevant human subject and experimental animal treatment approvals from the recipient institution will be requested prior to project initiation. A final report summarizing financial expenditure and research achievement is required.

AGA Foundation Invites Applications for Funderburg Research Award in Gastric Cancer

The AGA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the American Gastroenterological Association, is inviting applications for the 2016 Funderburg Research Award in Gastric Cancer.

Sponsored by the R. Robert and Sally D. Funderburg Charitable Trust, the annual award is designed to support an established investigator in the field of gastric biology whose research has the potential to enhance the fundamental understanding of gastric cancer pathobiology and ultimately contribute to the prevention and/or development of a cure for the disease. The recipient will be selected based on novelty, feasibility, and significance of his/her proposal. A single two-year grant of up to $100,000 will be awarded to an established investigator working on novel approaches in gastric cancer research, including the fields of gastric mucosal cell biology, regeneration and regulation of cell growth (not as they relate to peptic ulcer disease or repair), inflammation (including Helicobacter pylori) as precancerous lesions, genetics of gastric carcinoma, oncogenes in gastric epithelial malignancies, epidemiology of gastric cancer, etiology of gastric epithelial malignancies, or clinical research in the diagnosis or treatment of gastric carcinoma.To be eligible, applicants must hold a full-time faculty position at an accredited institution in North America and be established as an independent investigator in the field of gastric biology. AGA membership is required at the time of application submission. Women and minority investigators are strongly encouraged to apply. Oncology Nursing Society Foundation Seeks Letters of Intent for Research Grant

The Oncology Nursing Society Foundation is seeking Letters of Intent for its grant program in oncology nursing research.Two-year grants of up to $25,000 will be awarded for pilot or feasibility studies or for the development of a new aspect of a program of research. Preference will be given to projects that address ONS Research Priorities and/or the ONS Research Agenda. To be eligible, principal investigators must be actively involved in some aspect of cancer patient care, education, or research and be Ph.D.- or D.N.Sc.-prepared. Priority will be given to projects that involve nurses in the design and conduct of the research activity and that promote theoretically based oncology practice. Membership in ONS is not a requirement of eligibility. LOIs must be received no later than August 15, 2016. Center for First-Year Experience and Students and Transition Invites Applications for Research Projects

The National Resource Center for the First-Year Experience and Students in Transition is accepting applications from research projects aimed at improving the experiences of college students transitioning into and through higher education. Through its Paul P. Fidler Research grant program, the center will award a stipend of $5,000, plus travel to two national conferences, a presentation slot at a national conference, and priority consideration for publication, for a research project that supports and promotes research with the potential to have a national impact on student success. Topics may include but are not limited to underrepresented student populations, community colleges, the advising system, transfer and articulation, career development, and other issues related to college-student transitions. To be eligible, applicants must be a faculty or staff member or a graduate student at an institution of higher education in the United States who plans to conduct research on issues related to college-student transitions. Children’s Cardiomyopathy Foundation Invites LOIs for Research Grants

The Children’s Cardiomyopathy Foundation is accepting Letters of Intent from investigators for basic science, clinical, population/epidemiologic, and translational research on cardiomyopathies affecting children age 18 and younger.Grants of up to $50,000 will be awarded in support of studies focused on the causes, diagnosis, or treatment of dilated, hypertrophic, restrictive, arrhythmogenic right ventricular, and left ventricular noncompaction cardiomyopathy. The grants are intended to provide seed funding to investigators for the testing of initial hypotheses and collection of preliminary data that will help them secure long-term funding by the National Institutes of Health and/or other major granting institutions. To be eligible, principal investigators must hold an M.D., Ph.D., or equivalent degree and reside in the United States or Canada. In addition, the PI must have a faculty appointment at an accredited U.S. or Canadian medical institution and have the ability to conduct independent research with publications in established peer-reviewed medical and scientific journals.

Phoenix Society for Burn Victims Accepting Applications for 2016 Phoenix Education Grants

The Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering anyone affected by a burn injury through peer support, education, and advocacy. For more than thirty-five years the society has partnered with survivors, families, healthcare professionals, burn centers, and the fire industry to support recovery, improve the quality of burn care, and prevent burn injury.The society is accepting applications for its 2016 Phoenix Education Grant program. Through the annual program, the society provides scholarships ranging from $500 - $4,000 to burn survivors who are attending college or a technical school.To be eligible, applicants must be a burn survivor; be a high school senior, GED holder, or currently enrolled in a college, university, or trade school; demonstrate academic achievement as shown by grades and scores on standardized tests or ability in a trade or craft; and have applied and been accepted to an accredited two-year or four-year college/university or trade/vocational school.
