The Club ran a sponsored walk at the start of October and took e-mail addresses from the walkers. We have used these contacts to thank the walkers for their support and to ask if they knew somebody would like to become a member of the Club.

Membership

A budget is available each year to assist clubs with low membership

Help in due course will be required by Castle Bromwich who only have 12 members and they are organising a card scheme in the spring.

Birmingham Exhibition Lions Club have now settled into their new base at Hatchford Brook Golf Club and intend to use a card type scheme in the Village of Barston and the office blocks adjacent to the Golf Club. But hope to induct a new member.

But all clubs should continue to look for new members though every possible way.

Possible redistricting Simon Moss

Simon kindly gave us an update

New scheme to be sent to all clubs would mean 105M remaining as it is plus one Zone around Leicester from 105E.

But we will combine with 105W a large area indeed but essential we must redistrict to survive.

This would mean 8 Districts (instead of 12 plus 105I who have left)

Doug explained to urgent requirement for all clubs to go to 105MD at Blackpool and vote to back the scheme.

Lions Skills updateTerry Smith (105M officer Acocks Green Lions Club)

Many thanks to all clubs for support at Solihull Schools presentation event

Doug congratulated Terry on the organisation of the event.

Attended by the Mayor of Solihull --remember he is a Lion.

Each school had been allocated to a club -Shirley, MG & K&D had already contacted some of the schools.

Meetings with PTA were ideas put forward to build a link to assist both the school and PR Membership of club. A new detailed paper will be sent to all clubs.

But between Solihull 7 Lions Clubs & Solihull MBC Healthy Schools programme

Terry explained a further 16 to 20 addition Solihull Junior Schools would be added next year.

Asked about costs each club was requested to pay NOW £300.00 to cover 2 years

BC had already paid would the other clubs please look at this urgently.

The grant from 105M was £1,300.00

100th Year Remember this is the century of Lions and the International Convention this year will be in Chicago

The idea from BC of a possible musical event in the Library Theatre with a Cooperative Band they had used before -- most of the time was spent on this project.

Simon Moss & Paul Jolly spoke strongly in favour of a Lions evening but similar to "Last night at the Proms".

But because of the cost of hiring the theatre various clubs did not think there be enough take up on a Tuesday night ( June 13th) when tickets would have to be £10 to £15.00 each with an unknown band.

K&D were convinced we would not sell tickets at this price

Balsall Common will reconsider this but a thought that if they wished a provisional booking of the theatre could be made

A permanent "item" of some sort would still be the best idea to celebrate 100 years

Region Chairman

Doug welcomed Region Chairman Stewart Sherman- Kahn to the meeting

and congratulated him on being elected Second Vice District Governor.

But also reminding the whole meeting that the reason for the election was the very sad death of Second VDG Martin Hill of Harbrough Lions Club who was only 58.

Steward addressed the meeting amazed at how many were present and wished the other Zones A & B had the same support. Expressed support to all clubs and was organising his official visit to all 7 clubs.

Again modern use of Web pages, Twitter and Facebook were outlined in a modern changing world & Lions

Zone Diary

Ray Stephens gave out copies of the up to date diary -- but will clubs let Ray have the dates and not expect him to sort them out of reports

Again Thanks to Ray for keeping everyone up-to-date with other clubs activities

Zone Skittles

Ken Barker gave details and promised to sent out the programme to all clubs

Agreed start 7.0 for 7.30pm Teams of 5. Buffet say £2.00 a head

Thanks to Ken & Dave names of players required after November Club meeting please. Castle Bromwich cannot attend and Exhibition may require a loan player or two.

Many clubs attended the presentation of the Queens Award for Voluntary service award to Fast+Aid.

Most of the 7 Solihull Clubs had made contributions to the organisation in many cases donation Defibrillators for the cars involved.

At long last a Unit had been fitted externally at Boots in Mell Square but was not yet in use.

K&D asked for help from all clubs on their Fun Run day 21st May 2017 to provide fun stalls in Arden School grounds at the race start. Clubs to keep any proceeds themselves.

To keep the event a "Carnival" feel in the field at the start of the race.

Paul Jolly outlined an auction he was hoping to organise for Prostate Cancer but selling ties signed by well know people.

He had already received some, Steward offered to collect another for him.

If anyone knows a well know person who would provide a tie contact Paul.

An idea had been brought that a "Message in a Bottle" should be given all parents when discharged from hospital, cost & waste were discussed.

Idea that a card or letter be given to each person explaining were a bottle can be obtained from. Neither idea was accepted but the principle was good.

PP Bob from K&D have heard a rumour that the "Manshed idea was being rethought

Doug had been in touch with Marie Curie - early days but they hoped a major company would sponsor the whole project.

But Lions may be involved and we will be kept informed.

Pres Stephen Solihull Club suggested a joint club evening at Hall Green Dog Track when parties of more than 20 people could have the large private room complete with a meal for £20 /£30.00 depending on type of meal?

Next Meeting

Doug would write to the Marie Curie Hospice thanking them for the use of the Board Room for the meeting and asking if we can use it again for the next meeting on

Tuesday 28th February 2017

Doug pointed out this will be our third meeting and the last meeting of the current Lions year will probably be in June.

Therefore we should be considering a new Zone Chairman for 2017/18

Brian Hornsby suggested the fourth meeting should be a social event

ACTIONS TAKEN SINCE LAST MEETING:

I have visited 4 clubs (Shakespeare, Alcester, Warwick and Wellesbourne) in the Zone and have arranged to visit a further 3 in the next few weeks.

Shakespeare (my own club) continues to work hard with a good membership. They have a strong programme arranged to celebrate Lions Centennial and their own 50th anniversary which is outlined in their report below.

Alcester is successful despite small numbers and they have plans for lots of local activity/fundraising. They would benefit from some help with recruitment and we have discussed ways of meeting this agenda.

Warwick continues to build on its past success and appears to have completely recovered from last year’s membership problem. Their programme for the coming months is packed with service events.

Sadly Lion John Cavana (Stour Valley) has asked to be relieved of his Presidency and has gone At Large. Lion Peter Moore, 2nd Vice President, has offered to chair the December meeting and discussions will take place at this point.

Wellesbourne has just completed a leaflet drop in Kineton (I assisted with this) and they have a busy time ahead.

I have assisted at VIBE on two occasions this year.

Attended Wellesbourne’s Charter Lunch

ACTIONS PLANNED BEFORE NEXT MEETING:

I plan to visit the remaining clubs in the Zone and to discuss with them their plans as well as their suggestions for celebrating the forthcoming Lions Centennial.

I am hoping to support Club events during the run-up to Christmas.
