JOB TITLE/LOCATION: Test Engineer – Oxford, CT

DESCRIPTION:

The Corporate Test Facility in Oxford, CT, services all divisions of RBC. A Test Engineer at RBC Bearings needs to do a variety of tasks ranging from customer interface, test planning, preparation of reports, giving presentations, scheduling of test machine capacity, and ensuring all lab equipment is calibrated and maintained. The Test Engineer will be expected to act as consultant and testing expert to all divisions of RBC, as necessary, responding to queries of all kinds as detailed below. The successful Test Engineer will be expected to take a leadership role in the testing of new products and validation of new manufacturing processes as RBC expands its current product offering into new applications with structural and environmental challenges beyond our current knowledgebase and capability. He must have excellent communication skills, be a team player that has an obsessive drive to succeed within in a fast paced, challenging, and demanding environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

  • Test Laboratory:
  • Hands on experience in testing of mechanical components, design of test equipment, failure analysis, electro-mechanical equipment, hydraulics.
  • Equipment control and data acquisition system programming in Labview or MTS proprietary system software.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate test lab projects.
  • Interface with RBC customers, prepare and present test data and plans as necessary.
  • Work with product managers and engineering to review customer test specifications, provide test plans and quotations for work necessary.
  • Develop and maintain instrument calibration, equipment preventative maintenance schedules.
  • New Product Development:
  • Develop innovative testing configurations, plans, and tooling concepts as needed to support the testing of new products.
  • Anticipate upcoming testing needs and continue to enhance test lab capabilities, including upgrades to existing machines and development of new machines, to meet those needs.
  • Tooling Design:
  • Support RBC design engineers in the development of tooling and test rig concepts.

EDUCATION:

  • BS or Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering

EXPERIENCE:

  • BS or Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 0-2 years of related experience.
  • Programming expertise in Labview and/or MTS Flextest GT software.
  • Excellent communication skills, capability to prepare and present concise technical presentations.
  • Anticipate travel requirements to various customers, suppliers, and RBC facilities of approximately 5-10%.
