September 17, 2015 - Understanding Adult Services and How Supportive Housing Could Work for Your Adult Son or Daughter with Developmental Disabilities
Ed McManus, McManus Consulting and John Fallon, Senior Program Manager, Community Supportive Housing review the current state of the budget, funding and partnering realities as we plan for housing options including all forms of CILA and Supportive Housing. Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of how to plan and work toward meeting the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities within a framework of public funding, separation of housing from services, natural/family supports and capacity of community providers.
October 22, 2015 - Ligas Consent Decree: Past, Present and Future
Ronnie Cohn, new Ligas Court Monitor and Barry Taylor, Equip for Equality present an overviewof the Ligas Consent decree in Illinois including victories and challenges of the past andwhatlies ahead. Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of how to plan and work toward creative solutions that meet the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities within the framework of our current Waiver language and funding realities. Audience will also learn about the role of advocates from Equip for Equality in the Ligas process and how individuals and families can advocate most effectively forthemselves.
November 19, 2015 - Life Lessons in Loss and Grief: Helping Support Individuals with Developmental Disabilities through Life’s Most Critical Transitions
Linda Sandman, Clinical Asst. Professor, Disability and Human Development, UIC and Nora Handler, Sister and Founding Member of SIBS, Supporting Illinois Brothers and Sisterslead us through this important topic.Loss, illness and death touch all of us at some point. We need simple, practical strategies and guides to help individuals with developmental disabilities process, understand and move through these experiences. Drawing on perspectives from clinical best practice, professionals, family members and self-advocates, this session focuses on practical resources and activities you can start putting in place today; how to build on teachable moments with smaller transitions or losses in childhood that can help build resilience in adulthood; and communicating clear instructions to those who may be supporting your loved one through grief or transition after a loss.
Cost: $20/family members, $40/professionals includes 3.0 CEs per session. (Note: CEs available for Clinical Psychologists on Nov. 19 only) Pay at the door on day of your event. Sign up for all three dates, pay for entire Series on September 17 and receive discount! $50/family member Series rate, $100/professional Series rate. Pay cash or checks made payable to RGA.
