Position Title: Recovery Mentor

Reports To: Director of Programs and Services

Status: NON-EXEMPT

Schedule: 40 hours per week; some evenings and weekends

Salary Range: $15.00 per hour

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Director of Programs and Services, the Recovery Mentor will work as a liaison between domestic violence services and substance abuse recovery services for those accessing domestic violence services through the domestic violence continuum of care. The Recovery Mentor will provide peer support, systems navigation, and referrals to assist survivors in different stages of their individual recovery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Engage survivors and support them to the appropriate stage of recovery
  • Outreach through the domestic violence continuum of care to connect with survivors seeking recovery support
  • Provide support, guidance and information to survivors of domestic violence as requested
  • Safety planning with survivors regarding their physical and recovery safety
  • Collaborate and liaison with community partners; in treatment, peer-based programs and domestic violence agencies
  • Organize a flexible and mobile schedule which accommodates survivors’ needs and schedules
  • Attend meetings, appointments and events with survivors as identified in their recovery needs; provide transportation as necessary
  • Refer to outpatient and/or inpatient treatment as needed, and continue support as appropriate
  • Participate in FIT as per inter-agency agreement, with eventual reciprocal referral opportunities or other community collaborations.
  • Provide monthly and ‘as needed’ consultation for DV advocates
  • Co-facilitate a recovery group (such as Seeking Safety)
  • Maintain confidential records and provide aggregate data for county funding source

Secondary Duties:

  • Participate in staff and community meetings and events as appropriate
  • Identify system gaps and resources in order to better the cross-education of each community resource
  • Work closely with co-recovery mentor (team of two)
  • Meet with supervisor regularly
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Certified Recovery Mentor (CRM) or be willing to attend the training within the first six months of employment
  • If recovering from a substance abuse related disorder, must be able to demonstrate continuous sobriety under nonresidential, independent living conditions for at least the past two years.
  • Self-identify as a survivor of domestic violence
  • Completed 40 hour Basic Advocacy training for either domestic or sexual violence or ability to go through training within first six months of employment
  • High school diploma/GED or higher education
  • Familiarity with domestic violence programs, community recovery resources (AA, NA) and treatment programs
  • Flexible and able to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Can work both independently, as part of a team and remotely
  • Proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Possess a current Oregon driver’s license, acceptable driving record and that maintains adequate insurance coverage on their personal vehicles
  • Occasionally available on evenings and weekends
  • Demonstrated skills in writing and communication

Work Environment:

This position will work in a traditional, yet fast-paced setting. Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time working in front of a computer monitor. Must be able to work under deadlines and under stress inducing conditions. A domestic violence environment can potentially shift from stable to highly charged, and employees must remain flexible at all times. This position will be mobile and must be comfortable meeting with participants throughout the community including the Gateway Center for Domestic Violence Services.
