Course Description:This course is designed to cover the skills and knowledge needed to be safe, efficient and keep low stress on cows, horses and people when using a rope on a ranch.

Course Topics:

Horsemanship

Roping skills

Stockmanship

Team work in ranch roping

Course Outcome:

Identify and list three causes of resistance while working with animals and why they occur

Identify and list four things needed to eliminate resistance in working with all animals

List the four stages of training a horse to do a job

List seven parts to positioning a horse to successfully rope an animal

Demonstrate how to properly influence flight zone and balance point to influence the direction of a cow.

Demonstrate how to safely and effectively use a rope in ranch roping.

Demonstrate how to safely and effetely tie off in ranch doctoring.

Attendance is essential to your success in this course. Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each class. The grade for attendance is calculated using the number of classes in the term divided by the number of classes you attended.

Grading Scale:

A= 100-90%

B= 89-80%

C= 79-70%

D= 69-60%

F= Below 60%

- 4 stages of breaking a horse

Afternoon

-Horsemanship

- Test Horse on Foundation for Perfection

- Foundation for Perfection Applied to Ranch Roping

- Final Practical Test

- Weave in and out of Barrels

- (Stage 3, Stage 2 w/ Vertical Direction, Stage 4, Neck Reining)

- Pull Dummy Heading

- Stage 4, Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3 w/ Willing Submission and slipping rope)

- Pull Dummy Healing

- Application of FFP to positioning horse for ranch roping

Day Three:Stockmanship 11/9/ 16

- Foundation for perfection (cows and dogs)

Day Four:Team Work in Ranch Roping, Take Written Exam 11/10/16
