6. BRIEF RESUME OF THE INTENDED WORK

6.1 NEED FOR THE STUDY

Ayurveda the science of life, explains the theory of Tridosha, Sapta dhatu and Three Malas. In classical texts of Ayurveda it is said that Dosha Dhatu and Mala are the root cause for the manifestation of the body and diseases. Hence maintenance of dosha, dhatu, mala in the state of equilibrium is highlighted in Brihathrayis. In Ayurveda it is explained that Tridoshas in normal state are responsible for health and longevity and abnormal state leads to various disorders.

Jyoutisha shastra or Indian astrology is the science of time based on the movement or reaction of the planets and their effect on human body activities. It also explains about the effect of good and bad deeds done in the previous life. Jyoutisha shastra is intended to explain the happenings of the world based on time factor. Hence the present, past and future of an individual can be predicted. Ancient Indian astrology also explains Thridosha theory i.e particular planet is related to particular Dosha. Similarly influence of planets over various diseases like Pandu, Kushta, Apasmara, Unmada etc are also explained. By examining the planetary movements and placements in a horoscope, the psychological and physical weakness which may produce the disorder can be ascertained.

This factor is taken as the base for the study i.e the diagnostic criteria will be analysed for eighteen types of Kushta Roga mentioned in Charaka Samhitha, through Tridosha siddhanta of Ayurveda and principles of Jyoutisha Shastra.
