Activities and Assignments
ACTIVITIES
· Water Polo:
Students will be introduced to water polo, first learning how to effectively tread water, using the eggbeater kick. They will then learn the proper way to pass and receive and dribble the ball. Basic game strategies will be introduced both offensively and defensively. The students will first be introduced to modified games of water polo e.g., noodle water polo and inner tube water polo, eventually to play water polo utilizing the full length of the pool.
· Diving:
Students will be introduced to diving by first watching a video of Olympic divers, paying particular attention to the five key elements that make up a good dive – approach, hurdle, take-off, execution, and entry. The students will be taught the 3-step approach and focus primarily on mastering a straight jump. Their objective for this dive and any other dive is to work towards a good take-off that gives the diver maximum height and a safe distance from the board. From there, the students will work on optional dives that they can use in the final intra-class diving competition. The diving competition will be judged on the students performing a require jump and two optional dives.
· Miscellaneous Games and activities:
Miscellaneous games and activities may include such things as:
Sharks and minnows
Blob tag
Pictionary
