On May 24-26Radlje ob DraviMusicSchool is holding the fifthCarinthian Piano Competition, and would like to invite all interested students to apply.

There will be a separate category for those students who are attending music school. The pianists will be divided according to the number of years spent learning piano, regardless of age.There will be ten categories for piano solo and three categories for piano four-hands. Participants in the piano solo categories are expected to perform from memory.

Piano Solo

1st/2nd categories: up to 5 minutes

3rd/4th categories: up to 8 minutes

5th/6th categories: up to 12 minutes

7th/8th categories: up to 15 minutes

9th/10th categories: up to 15 minutes

Piano four-hands

1st category (1-3 years): up to 6 minutes

2nd category (4-6 years): up to 10 minutes

3rd category (7-8 years): up to 13 minutes

(if the participants belong to different categories,
the pair will compete in the higher category).

Final Concert

Participants who attain a gold award or special recognition are requested to perform in the final concert.

Filming and photography

Cameras may not be used during the competition. Shots of competitors may be taken beforehand. The final concert will be recorded by the organisers.

Competitors will be evaluated by a three-member international jury. The contestant may be stopped if the prescribed time is exceeded. Jury members will not evaluate their own students. Evaluation of the contestants will not be public, and the decisions of the judges are final. The jury will assess each performance from 1 to 10 and designate awards according to their judgement. The order of the award-winners will be posted two hours after each competition on the bulletin board and on the school website. The Carinthian piano competition is motivational in nature, and therefore points attained will not be made public.

Awards and Recognitions

In each category, participants can receive:

• Gold Award (8.0 - 10.0 points)

• Silver Award (6.0 - 7.99 points)

• Bronze Award (4.0 - 5.99 points)

• Recognition (3.99 points or less)

The jury will award special prizes for

• best performance of a classical piece

• best performance of a piece by a Slovenian composer

• best performance of an original composition by the
competitor

• most promising competitor
