MATCHING VERB TENSE IN QUESTION AND ANSWER

Oakland ESL Class Level Documentor State standard to be assessed:

Students will show proficiency when asked to take notes on information transmitted orally on familiar or unfamiliar topics when supporting material is provided: 10 questions relating to a job interview.

Conditions under which the students will take the assessment

The assessment will be administered in the classroom to the entire class during one session.

 The teacher will dictate 10 questions slowly and carefully two times.

Approximately 20 minutes total is needed for the teacher to dictate the questions and the students to write the dictated questions.

No other intervention takes place.

 Scoring time: approximately 1 minute or each student.

 Equipment/resource materials to be used by the student:

 Pencil, lined paper and eraser.

Type of response by student:

Listening and writing.

  • Students will write complete questions asdictated by the teacher.
  • Students will then write complete answers to the questions using the same verb tense as the dictated questions.
  • Spelling will not be judged except for the verb. Correct spelling is required for regular and irregular past tense verb only.

Teacher Preparation for Assessment:

Teacher formulates 10 common job interview questions previously taught and learned using simple past verb tense.

Teacher separates students as space permits.

Teacher emphasizes importance of listening and writing what they hear.

Instructions to be given by the teacher to the student:

Instruct the students to write one question that they hear as dictated by the teacher. (simple past tense verb)

 After they write the 10 questions that the teacher has dictated they are to write answers to each question using the same verb tense within a complete sentence.(simple past tense verb)

 Scoring Criteria/Rubric:

Binary: 5 points will be awarded for each question written

using the simple past verb tense.

5 points will be awarded for each answer written

using the same simple past verb tense.
