Introduction

In this report, undergraduate students provide their perspective on their educational and occupational plans following graduation through responses to a questionnaire presented to them near graduation. Seniors and those juniors who are not planning to return to campus before graduation participate in the Measure of Academic Proficiency and Progress as an exit evaluation of their general education skills and abilities. The questions concerning the educational and occupational plans of MissouriStateUniversity graduating students were included as locally developed questions for the first time in the fall 1998 administration of the measure. The questionnaire has been included in all administrations each semester since that time.

Data and Methods

The questionnaire consists of nine questions that are incorporated as locally developed questions on the Measure of Academic Proficiency and Progress (MAPP). The Center for Assessment and Instructional Support developed the questionnaire in 1998 as a response to campus interest in knowing what students do following graduation. The responses are scanned by the Educational Testing Service along with responses to the MAPP. The resulting data from the locally developed questionnaire are provided to the Center for Assessment and Instructional Support.

A total of 22, 306 students responded to the questionnaire during the past nine years that the questionnaire was administered. Students received the initial questionnaire in the fall semester of 1998. A few questions were revised at several points during the nine years of administration which accounts for the areas of missing data. In fall 1999, questions 2, 3, 4, and 8 were changed. In spring 2001, question 1 was changed, and in fall 2001, questions 6, 7, and 9 were altered.

Results

The following two tables present the number of students who responded to the questionnaire and the percent of participants who responded to each of the questions. The first table summarizes the resulting responses for each of the nine fiscal years. The second table displays the percentage of responses for each semester from fall 1998 through spring 2007. Data for each fiscal year that is incorporated in the second table provides comparative summary information.
