Homework is assigned to students as a learning tool. It is imperative that students keep up with homework so that it can be used to their best advantage. Therefore, MOST homework (especially worksheets) will be graded as a completion score. Periodically, some homework will be graded for accuracy; these will not be announced.
Quizzes are every Friday, generally covering the material of that week. Do not be surprised. If you are absent on a Friday, the missed quiz is not made up, it simply does not figure into your grade; if this occurs, your total points for that category will be different from others in the class. Patterns of absences on Fridays are noticed very quickly!
Semester exams will occur at the end of each semester. Each exam will be over the material covered in that semester and will represent the semester exam grade. Each semester grade is broken down as such: Quarter grade—45% each; Semester exam—10%. Grading is point based. For example, smaller assignments, like homework, may be worth only 5 points, quizzes might be around 10-20 and tests might be 50 points.
All students will receive a participation grade for each quarter. This grade starts out as a 30/ 30 points – 100%. Students cannot earn extra points, but they can lose points. Each offense costs 2 points. Offense include not following classroom procedures, not obeying class rules, out of uniform, not arriving prepared for class, speaking out, not following along with the class, excessive talking, not taking notes, not completing classwork, sleeping, doing work from a different class, etc. Points will be deducted at teacher discretion.
