Welcome to Concordia

Today is Palm Sunday – sometimes called “Sunday of the Passion.” It is the start of “Holy Week.” This year, it is also the day on which we will welcome into Communicant membership several people. Details are listed below. We pray the Lord’s richest blessings on all who are with us today. May we grow in faith and in faithful service to our Lord.

1. “All Glory, Laud and Honor” # 102

2. Invocation

P: In the name of the Father and of + the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C: Amen.

3. Confession & Absolution

P: Beloved in the Lord! Let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins unto God our Father, beseeching Him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness. Hebrews 10:22

[those wishing to kneel may do so]

P: Our help is in the name of the Lord,

C: who made heaven and earth. Psalm 124:8

P: I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,

C: and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Psalm 32:5

P: O almighty God, merciful Father,

C: I, a poor, miserable sinner, confess unto You all my sins with which I have ever offended You and justly deserved Your temporal and eternal punishment. But I am heartily sorry for them and sincerely repent of them, and I pray You of Your boundless mercy and for the sake of the holy, innocent, bitter suffering and death of Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to be gracious and merciful to me, a poor, sinful being.

P: Upon this your confession, I, by virtue of my office, as a called and ordained servant of the Word, announce the grace of God unto all of you, and in the stead and by the command of my Lord, Jesus Christ, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of Ê the Son and of the Holy Spirit. John 20:19-23

C: Amen.

4. Introit[1]

P: But you, OLord, do not be far off!O you my help, come quickly to my aid! 21Save me from the mouth of the lion! You have rescued me from the horns of the wild oxen! 1My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?[2]

All: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

5. Choir Anthem “Prepare the Way”

6. Collect

P: Almighty and Everlasting God, You sent Your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, to take upon Himself our flesh. He suffered death upon the cross that all mankind should follow the example of His great humility. Mercifully guide us that we may both follow His example, and be partakers in His resurrection; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

C: Amen

7. First Lesson Philippians 2:5-11[3]

Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,6who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.8And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.9Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name,10so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,11and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

8. Holy Gospel Matthew 21:1-11

Now when they drew near to Jerusalem and came to Bethphage, to the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,2saying to them,“Go into the village in front of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Untie them and bring them to me.3If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord needs them,’ and he will send them at once.”4This took place to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet, saying:

5“Say to the daughter of Zion,

‘Behold, your king is coming to you,

humble, and mounted on a donkey,

and on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.’”

6The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them.7They brought the donkey and the colt and put on them their cloaks, and he sat on them.8Most of the crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.9And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!”10And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, saying, “Who is this?”11And the crowds said, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee.”

9. “Hosanna, Loud Hosanna” # 106

Communion

(If you are not a member and wish to receive Communion, please read the following)

We welcome all members of Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod congregations who are baptized and who have confirmed their faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Those who desire forgiveness for all their sins, and strengthening of their faith in the hope of everlasting life in heaven; and who believe that with the bread and wine of Holy Communion they are receiving the very body and blood of Christ Jesus for the forgiveness of their sins and strengthening of their faith are welcome to partake. Others are asked to please refrain from partaking until they have had opportunity to discuss Communion participation with the pastor.

Distribution of the wine is by common cup and/or individual cups. If you choose the individual cup, please hold the cup in front of you until the communion assistant has come past you. Grape juice for those who cannot have wine, is available in the center of the individual tray. Those desiring a blessing from the pastor, but not Communion, are asked to please place two fingers over their lips to alert the servers of their desire.
