SECTION THREE – Overall purpose of job

The Community Services Unit aims to improve the economic, social and environmental well-being of people who live, work and visit the borough of Kettering. We:
  • Develop the Borough’s community strategy with other groups and organisations
  • Advocate services being provided in ways that are sustainable for the future
  • Form partnerships with community groups, the voluntary sector, other organisations and businesses
  • Develop communities particularly those with fewer skills and opportunities
  • Provide and manage sport, play, and leisure
  • Develop the Borough’s Community Safety Strategy to make this a safer place to live and work
  • Tackle poverty, social exclusion and equality to promote community cohesion and minimise inequality
The purpose of this post is to support and develop a one team approach to delivering services by involvement in a range of different projects across the unit.
This can be by:
  • Planning and delivering projects and being responsible for all the activities involved in the day to day management of those projects including the supervision of project team members.
  • Acting as a member of project teams.
This post is more likely to be involved in community infrastructure, Local Strategic Partnership (LSP), working with young people and voluntary sector partnerships.

SECTION FOUR – Principal Responsibilities

  1. To be a project leader or project team member in a variety of projects which improve the quality of life through working with local voluntary and statutory organisations to deliver safe, diverse and healthy neighbourhoods.
  2. To be responsible for the development, implementation and review of the Sustainable Community Strategy.
  3. To identify and make recommendations for actions needed to implement the strategy, ensuring actions are delivered by partners both inside and outside the Council.
  4. To organise and co-ordinate the annual LSP conference working with other officers where appropriate.
  5. To attend and coordinate LSP meetings ensuring that agendas and relevant reports are produced, liaising with speakers from both external and internal services and deputise for the Community Services Manager from time to time. Liaising with Heads of Service, members of SMT and the Chair of the LSP.
  1. To be the key point of contact for the Voluntary Sector Service Level Agreements (SLAs), co-ordinating the monitoring of the SLAs and acting as a designated link officer where appropriate.
  1. To act as a resource for, and work in partnership with, other Council services and outside agencies engaged in delivering community services.
  1. To work with inter-agency organisations and partnerships within the Council and between the Council, local communities, voluntary sector agencies and individuals, in order to deliver the Council’s corporate objectives for sustainable place making.
  1. Be the link officer for the Voluntary Sector forum. Consulting and liaising with the voluntary sector to ensure that Kettering Borough Council interests are represented.
  1. To be responsible for the developing effective mechanisms to ensure young people are consulted on Kettering Borough Council policies and strategies.
  1. To consult with customers about service standards and quality and make recommendations for service improvement.
  1. Ensure compliance with all council policies with particular reference to health and safety, equal opportunities, and communication.
  1. The post holder may from time to time be required to carry out other duties provided they are commensurate with the level of responsibility of the post and within the abilities of the post holder.
  1. The post holder will be required to work from time to time outside normal office hours.
  1. There will be a requirement for the post holder to attend corporate training courses as and when appropriate.
