Q:What do you mean by “farm worker history”?
A:This scholarship is applicable to students whoare or have been farm workers, or students with a parent or legal guardian in their household who is or has been a farm worker inthe United States.
Forthe purpose of awarding these scholarships, Sea Mar refers to the following two farm worker definitions
- A migrant farm workeris an individual who travels to different communities for purpose of principal employmentin agriculture and dairy labor in the United States.
- A seasonalfarm workeris an individual whose principalemployment isagricultureand dairy labor and who resides all year in one community in the United States.
Forthe purpose of awarding these scholarships,farm workers do not includefarm, ranch, feedlot, or food- or meat-processing plantowners/operators.
Q:Do I have to be Latino to apply?
A:No. This scholarship is open to all students who fit the farm worker definition andcriteria regardless of their race or ethnicity.
Q:Do I have to be a Washingtonstateresident? Are HB 1079 students eligible?
A:Yes. All students must be a Washington state resident to be eligible. Washington state residents attending a college/university out-of-state are eligible. However, out-of-state students (non-Washington state residents) attending a Washington state college/university are noteligible.
HB1079 students are considered Washington state residents andareeligible to apply.
Q:Do you need an officialor unofficial transcript?
A: Transcripts do not need to be official but all transcripts must have the student’s nameand student ID listed. This information cannot be hand-written. Students applying as high school seniors should remove their transcript from any sealed envelope.
Q:I am a current college senior and will graduate this May/June, am I eligible for the scholarship?
A:No. Due to the timeline of the scholarship award, current college seniors are not eligible.
Q:I am a graduate student. Can I apply?
A:No. This scholarship is only applicable for graduating high school students andundergraduate students. At this time, Sea Mar does not have a scholarship for graduate students.
Q:If I received the SeaMar Farm Worker scholarship before, am I eligible toreapply?
A:No. Due to high demand, students who havepreviously received the Sea Mar scholarship whether as a high school or college student arenot eligible to reapply. This is a one-time scholarship.

Q. Is it recommendable for me to mail the scholarship documents in a yellow envelope or through priority mail?
A: No. Applicants can mail their applications in regular mailing envelopes so long as they are sent before the deadline.
Q: If I’m a high school senior but not yet enrolled in a higher education institute, am I still eligible to apply?
A: All students are eligible to apply if they are planning on enrolling into a higher education institute for the 2014-15 academic year.
Q: If I have graduated from high school but not yet enrolled in college, am I eligible to apply?
A: Yes, please use the Farm Worker Scholarship for High School Students application form to apply for a scholarship and include this information on your application and/or essay.
