The CLEO Network Edge Device can also be used to filter (or block) websites from within the school. This does not replace any filtering system, which may currently be provided by e.g. your LEA. This additional layer of filtering will enable you to immediately restrict access to websites.

You will need to logon to your CLEO Network Edge Device using the Central Management Console or ‘Dashboard’. To do this……..

Open up your internet browser e.g. Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox.

The dashboard url is the same for all users –

Enter your username and password and click ‘login’

Depending on your access level, you will then see the following screen;

To filter a site….

To add a website to be blocked you must first create a list,

Both the name and description should be unique and allow you to easily identify the list later.

Figure 7–Adding a new list

There are 3 options –

Allowed – for the setting up of a white list or walled garden

Blocked –for additional filtering of website

Unused –for situations such as the list is not currently being used

You can then create more or edit/modify existing your filter lists

Figure 10–Filtering Policy by User Group

This grid allows you to set the default policy for user groups and manage whitelist and blacklist assignments for each group. Each URL list may have a unique assignment to each user group, with the contents of the list either allowed, blocked, or ignored.

If the group default policy is ‘Allowed’ then web browsing will only be restricted by the filter lists which are ‘Blocked’ for that group.

If the group default policy is ‘Blocked’ then web browsing will be restricted to web sites listed in URL filter lists which are ‘Allowed’ for that group. (This sort of group is often called a ‘walled garden’.)
