Pupil Premium Plan 2015-2016

At Burnley Brow 36% of our children are in receipt of the Pupil Premium Grant. Our parental survey highlights that our children are often first generation with approximately 50% of parents not speaking any English at home. We recognise that we need to provide a curriculum that will enhance opportunities, raise aspirations and encourage British values of fairness, respect and democracy.

Monitoring of this group enables us to be proactive to changing needs and individual requirements.

We have used our Pupil Premium Grant to enable us to enhance our curriculum provision through many ways including having themed weeks and themed days. We have an artist working with children and families to inspire creative and communication skills. We have developed a media suite and a DT, science and art area that is resourced to facilitate independent, team, and creative working. We have facilitated opportunities for the children to play musical instruments including guitars, tenor horn and piano.

Our school focus is on Personalised learning, challenge and effective feedback and all our children who are disadvantaged benefit from high quality first teaching and targeted intervention where necessary. We have developed the role of literacy and maths leaders to ensure high quality teaching in these core areas. We also have Unit Leaders who focus on teaching and learning in their age phase.

Our school is forward thinking and innovative and we strive to be leaders in educational provision. We encourage our children to try new things, challenge themselves and take risks; enabling children to take ownership of their own learning. We also are proactive and relentless in targeting parents to have high aspirations for their children and themselves.
