Pupil Premium - Examinations 2013 Closing the Gap

Pupil premium - Examinations 2013 Closing the Gap:

The data in Raise 2013 – Unvalidated (with the Validated Report anticipated in April 2014) indicates a mostly positive picture regarding the examination outcomes for students supported by the Pupil Premium Initiative (PPI) at SJS.

Progress Measures Value Added:Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4 value added Summary Report by Ebacc subject areas.

The overall progress made by students taking GCSEs in 2013 was similar whether they were supported by PPI or not. The ‘gap’ is small, meaning we have been able to overcome any disadvantage this group had. In some cases there is a positive impact for the SJS PPI students.

In this table you can see the ‘value added’ progress score in the facilitating subjects; these are the traditional academic subjects valued by the top universities; this clearly shows the PPI students from SJS performing better than the National performance gap figures.

Subject / Overall
Value added / Non-Free School Meal students / Free School Meal students / SJS gap in value added / National gap in value added
English / 999.4 / 999.2 / 1000.1 / +0.9 (-0.2) / -2.1 (-2.3)

Attainment at KS4: Average point scores without qualifications equivalent to GCSE 2013 (ie GCSE only)

The differences between the performance of the students supported as PPI (FSM – Free School Meals or CLA – Children Looked After) show no significant negative impact and both the Capped Total Point Scores and Total Point Scores (for GCSE examinations only) show the PPI supported students at SJS achieving at a significantly higher level than achieved in National figures:

Capped Total Point score: GCSE only / Total point Score: GCSE only
National / SJS / Significance / National / SJS / Significance
CLA or FSM / 214.4 / 283.8 / SIG + / 234.7 / 321.8 / SIG +
