These PUHSD online library resources provide background information that can be translated into many languages:

Note: Some tools in these online databases may not work using the translated text format. To re-enable the tools, convert back to the original English format.

·  Encyclopedia Britannica

Ø  Using this link will allow you to search for detailed background information on a multitude of subjects.

Ø  Look at the TOP, RIGHT SIDE OF THE SCREEN for the “Planet” icon to translate articles into the language of your choice. (Note: This Google Translate feature gives you over 80 different languages to choose from.)

·  GALE Student Resources in Context

Ø  Using this link will allow you to search for the following types of information in GALE Student Resources in Context: images, videos, audio, references, news, academic journals, magazines and case overviews.

Ø  Look in the TOOLS MENU for the “Translate” feature. GALE Student Resources in Context will translate into thirteen different languages, including Chinese, French and Spanish.

·  GREENR – Global Reference on the Environment, Energy and Natural Resources

Ø  Using this link will allow you to search for this detailed information on the environment, energy and natural resources: images, videos, audio, references, news, academic journals, magazines and case overviews.

Ø  Look in the TOOLS MENU for the “Translate” feature. GREENR will translate into eight different languages, including Chinese, French and Spanish.

·  ProQuest SIRS

Ø  Using this link will allow you to get pro and con information on dozens of issues.

Ø  Once your chosen information article is displayed, use the “Translate” drop-down menu on the top, right side of the screen to choose a language. Remember to click on “GO” so you can get your translation. It may take a few minutes to get your information article translated.

Ø  Note: ProQuest SIRS will only translate into eleven different languages.

·  Teen Health and Wellness

Ø  Using this link will allow you to search for detailed background information on teen health issues such as bullying, dating, drugs, depression, dealing with parents, fitness and nutrition, and much more.

Ø  Look at the TOP, RIGHT SIDE OF THE SCREEN for the translate function. Use the drop-down menu to select the language you want to translate the text into. (Note: This Google Translate feature gives you over 80 different languages to choose from.)

·  World Book – Hispánica Saber

Ø  Using this link will allow you to search a Spanish language version of World Book encyclopedia.

Ø  The quick search box is located at the top of the screen. Make sure to click “Buscar” once you have entered your search term in order to get your Spanish information articles.

Newspapers Online

Current events information in many languages is provided using these online library resources:

·  Arizona Republic Newspaper

Ø  Using this link will allow you to access a digital version of the Arizona Republic.

Ø  Logon information - Username: AZMIE, Password: 2013

Ø  Use the pull-down menu located on the left side of the blue feature bar to translate articles into the language of your choice.

·  World Book

Ø  Using this link will allow you to search for newspapers from all the American states and over 180 countries.

Ø  Look at the QUICK LINKS MENU ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE SCREEN. Use the drop-down location menu to select a country. Individual American states can also be chosen.

Ø  Once you have selected a state or country, websites for the newspapers from that location will be displayed. Just click on the link of your choice to load the newspaper’s website.

Language Translation

Translate text into many languages using these online resources:

·  Google Translate

Ø  Using this link will allow you to easily translate text into over 80 different languages.

Ø  Either type or copy and paste your ORIGINAL TEXT into the box on the LEFT SIDE. This is the text you need to translate.

Ø  To translate your text, use the drop-down menu on the RIGHT SIDE of the screen to select a language. Once you have chosen a language, your translated text will appear in the text box on the right side.

·  Visual Thesaurus

Ø  Using this link will allow you to translate single words into different languages.

Ø  At the top of the screen, in the quick search box, type the word you’d like to translate in English. Click “Look It Up” or hit “Enter.”

Ø  Once your word map is displayed, click on “Edit” in the settings menu to choose a language. (Note: Visual Thesaurus only translates into Dutch, French, German, Italian and Spanish.)

Ø  In the settings menu, click on both “Search” and “Display” for your chosen language.

Ø  Make sure to click “Apply,” then click “Look It Up” again to display your translation.

Ø  Note: Visual Thesaurus defaults back to English with each new word search. So you’ll have to change the language settings for each word you want translated. Also, all other content on this website is only available in English.
