Sanitation Laborer
General Definition
This is municipal sanitation work. Occupants of this position work on regular and special sanitation routes; pick up trash, recyclables, bulk items and other debris, and load onto sanitation trucks for disposal.
Examples of Work
Picks up trash, recyclables, bulk items and other debris and loads onto sanitation truck for proper disposal.
Cleans equipment and vehicles
Performs custodial and maintenance functions to buildings, grounds and equipment including sweeping, mopping, general cleaning, snow removal, painting, grass-cutting, and minor repair work.
Plows snow or uses shovel or snow blower when required.
Performs other related duties as required.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Ability to learn state and local refuse and recyclable regulations as it relates to the proper disposal of solid waste.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with government and private entities, employees, elected officials and members of the public.
CDL drivers license preferred but not necessary.
Required Education and Experience
High school diploma; GED; or
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
