Discussion of Upcoming PTO & Community Events:

  • September 11th & September 13th PTO Open Sessions 6pm-6:30pm prior to Curriculum Nights
  • September 20th: Enhancement Night (no PTO presentations)
  • September 25th: 5pm-8pm BJ’s FallFestivalSponsorSchool event (face painting, arts & crafts). $5 from every new BJ’s membership (for WHE families) goes back to WHE.
  • October 22nd: Chic-fil-A “Chic-or-Treat” night 5pm-8pm. 20% of proceeds on that night come back to WHE.

  • 5/6/13 Chic-fil-A
  • Discussion about Canned Food Drive (potential 10/15-11/15). Discussed logistics.

Bricks for Kindergarten/1st Grade Playground

40 bricks sold to date. The bricks are being sold for $50. It costs $30 per brick for materials, engraving, etc. $20 per brick comes back to WHE. To date, this has been an $800 fundraiser for WHE.

There was some brief discussion about how to thank vendors who donate time or materials to WHE. No standard process in place at this time.

Track Update

We have received a bid of $19,000 for asphalt and $7,000 for gravel. However, a parent mentioned that we had received an asphalt bid of $9,000 in previous years so more follow-up is going to take place.

Principal Update

Mr. Mills presented information about the “Reading 3-D” program. The PTO discussed funding the program for students in 4th & 5th grade who score in the bottom 40. The cost is approximately $16-17 per student for the license fee. The State of NCcurrently provides funding for the K-3 program.

Mr. Mills also mentioned that next year there may be a cost of $8,000-$9,000 for Universal Assessments.

There was a brief discussion about ants/fire ants and getting the problem controlled on campus (both internal and external).

Hawks Cards

Brief discussion about the date of the kickoff (9/6) and logistics of getting classes into an assembly (and how much time was dedicated to presentation).

Parent Volunteers

Discussion that new On-line directory could provide volunteer lists based on parents’ expressed interest in helping out with certain functions.
