PTO and TITLE I/PAC MEETING MINUTES

SEPTEMBER 26, 2012

I.WELCOME AND INTRODUCTIONS

Heather Hauser welcomed everyone to the meeting. Randy Rybak then asked the group to recognize Heather for a great start to the school year. He then introduced the Title I Reading Specialists and the Title I Paraprofessionals.

II.TITLE I NIGHT

Mark your calendars, Title I Family Night will beheld on November 8 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at the Middle School. Ronald McDonald will be our entertainment this year. He will be focusing on literacy.

III.COMMUNICATING TO PARENTS

Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on November 12 from 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

IV.SEVEN SPRINGS REPORT

Mrs. Karen Vanderhoff attended the Seven Springs State Parent Advisory Conference (SPAC) in July. Mrs. Vanderhoff stated that the conference exceeded her expectations. She got a lot of useful information from the workshops she attended. They gave ideas to encourage parents on ways to enrich their child’s education. She also got information on how to prepare her children for college.

Randy Rybak reminded parents that this conference is open to everyone. More information will be distributed later in the school year.

V.BUILDING REPORTS

Christine Izydore (Fawn) said that they are currently placing into Flex groups according to their assessment scores.

Amy Yeckel (Grandview) said that they are also using assessment scores to organize their flex groups. This year, they are including math and character education in addition to reading. She also asked parents to look for the Book Adventure information that will be coming home soon.

Carol Petrulak (Fairmount) stated that they are also using assessments to place their students into Flex Groups. She also wanted to thank the Instructional Aides as they are instrumental to the success of their program.

VI.FLEX PERIODS

Title I services every student in our elementary schools. During the Flex Periods, some students will be working with an interventionist. During Flex Periods, Mrs. Hauser will have an officer some in to speak with students about Character Education. Judge Bengel is also interested in speaking with students.

Heather Hauser has met with a Family Services representative. She offers a unique service. She will run groups to help children succeed. She will be at the Parent/Teacher Conference night. She wants to help parents to help their children succeed.

VII.SWP UPDATES DUE TO REORGANIZATION

Randy Rybak informed the group that the Highlands Title I program is being audited this year. He had the group break up into their respective buildings so that the title I Reading Specialists could disseminate and discuss the Parent Involvement Plan and the Compact.
