Parents’ Place: All proceeds from the race go to helping Parents’ Place maintain its quality preschool program. For more than 31 years, Parents’ Place has provided a unique parent-run, nondenominational program open to all parents and their preschool children. We provide parents with a place to socialize while their children attend preschool classes. Children from ages 1 to 5 attend classes taught by experienced and qualified teachers while infants stay with their mother or father in the parents’ room.
The teachers at Parents’ Place encourage independence and creativity through stimulating physical and cognitive development activities: reading, music, crafts, and play time. While children attend classes, parents enjoy the opportunity to share parenting experiences and learn from notable speakers on topics ranging from nutrition and finance to local charities and children’s activities.
Race course: This out and back course begins and ends at the Tugboat Depot Park in Star City. The race will travel along the Rail Trail toward downtown. This gently rolling course along the trail is prefect for runners and walkers of all levels. Water will be provided on the course.
Race-Day Check In: Registration is from 8:00-8:45 am. Runners and walkers will check in at the Star City Park Pavilion by the river, below the Tugboat Depot park. Everyone must be registered by 8:45 am. All pre-registered runners are guaranteed a t-shirt, but availability of shirts is not guaranteed on race day. There is parking by the pavilion as well as on Frontier.
Entry Fee: If you register before April 15, 2016, the registration cost is $20.00. All entrants who register after April 15 will be charged $25.00. Fees are nonrefundable.
Finish/Results: Computerized timing will be provided and results will be made available online.
Refreshments: All racers will be provided with refreshments, provided by various sponsors.
Awards: Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female running finishers as well as the top three male and female running finishers in each of the following age groups: 14 and under; 15–19; 20–24; 25–29; 30–34; 35–39; 40–44; 45–49; 50–54; 55–59; 60–65; and 65 and over. Awards will also be given to the top three overall male and female walkers.
Activities for Kids: During and after the race, Parents’ Place will provide activities for children including face-painting, games, and arts and crafts activities, and a Kids’ Race for any child who would like to participate.
Directions: The race will begin on the Rail Trail at Tugboat Depot Park in Star City. Tugboat Depot is located on Frontier Ave and University Ave. in Star City along the river, close to Terra Café.
