PSSA and KEYSTONE Data Comparison

PSSA tests students in grades 3 – 8 for ELA and Math and in grades 4 and 8 for Science.For PSSA Math, CASD scores increased for grades 3, 4, 7, and 8, while the state increased in the same grade levels. There was a slight decrease in scores for grades 5 and 6 math, reflecting the same decrease at the state level for the same grade levels.

For PSSA English Language Arts, CASD scores increased for grades 3, 4, and 6 while the state increased in the same grade levels. CASD and the state scores both decreased in grades 5 and 7. For grade 8, the state increased and CASD decreased. However, CASD’s proficiency for grade 8 is greater than the state proficiency.

The Keystone exams test students for Literature, Algebra 1, and Biology. For Keystone exams, CASD scores rose in all content areas, which include Literature, Algebra 1, and Biology. However, the State scores decreased in all content areas.

State exams are one way to monitor student performance to help identify student progress at an individual level, grade level, building level and district level. In addition, CASD uses other district assessments to support teaching and learning.
