SAFETY WALL PADDING

PART - GENERAL

SUMMARY

Section Includes:

Provide safety wall padding where indicated on Drawings.

Provide corner padding where noted.

Provide concealed fasteners related to installation of padding.

SUBMITTALS

General Requirements: Provide submittals in accordance with Section 013300.

Shop Drawings: Identify sizes, locations, and methods of installation.

Samples: Provide samples of facing fabric material from which Architect can select colors.

MATERIALS AND FABRICATION FOR WALL AND CORNER SAFETY PADDING

Padding Panel Materials:

Backing: 3/8inch thick CD INTAPAExterior Glue (CDX) plywood or oriented strand board.

Core: One piece cushion, for each separate padded wall or corner panel, of 6pound density polyurethane foam, not less than 11/2inches thick. Mold external edges and corners of foam cushion to a small radius.

Facing: Nylon reinforced vinyl fabric. Architect will select color from padding manufacturer's standard colors.

Panel Attachment System: Heavy, 6063T5 alloytemper, extruded aluminum consisting of a 2piece male/female clip design. System shall allow panel removal by lifting panels upward.

Provide concealed means of anchoring individual panels, which will prevent accidental and unauthorized removal of the panels, as approved by Architect.

Fasteners: Appropriate fasteners for fastening panel attachment system to padding panel backing and to wall construction.

Padding Panel Fabrication:

Cement core material to backing and cover with facing material. Wrap facing material over edges of core and backing materials and securely fasten to back surface of panel backing.

Wall Padding Panel Size: 2foot wide by 5'10" to 6foot high panels butted together to provide total safety wall padding area widths as indicated on Drawings.

Provide openings/cutouts for wall mounted mechanical and electrical items (thermostats, switches, outlets, and similar items) where they occur within panels.

Provide panels on doors where noted to accommodate glazing and hardware.

Corner Padding Sizes: Widths from corner as indicated on Drawings by 5'10" to 6foot high, unless otherwise indicated.

PART - EXECUTION

INSTALLATION

General Requirements:

Install safety wall padding and corner padding where indicated on Drawings in accordance with padding manufacturer's recommendations.

Install fastener system to be completely concealed behind installed panels.

Install bottom of padding to be at top edge of wall base unless otherwise indicated.

Verify exact location and mounting heights with Owner and Architect before proceeding with installation work.

Installation of Wall and Corner Safety Padding Panels:

Butt individual panels tight together in each bank of panels.

Securely anchor one member of male/female clip design panel attachment system on wall continuous across top and one across bottom of a bank of panels. Stop wall anchored attachment system member 1inch short of each exposed edge of a bank of panels.

Securely anchor second member of male/female clip design panel attachment system continuous across top and bottom, on back of each separate padding panel so they mate with attachment system member anchored on wall. Stop clips anchored on panels 1inch from each side of panels.

Corner Padding Panels:

Securely anchor (1) member of male/female clip design panel attachment system on wall across top and (1) across bottom of each side of corner panels. Stop wall anchored attachment system member 1inch short of each exposed edge of corner panels.

Secure panels to wall, using concealed fasteners, to prevent accidental and unauthorized removal.
